The question was raised to me: Do you trust people who do not like animals?

Now this wasn't something I just thought of. People who don't like animals don't have to be bad people. Pet owners can be bad people as well. But I'm talking about people who can't stand dogs, cats, horses, goldfish...they balk at anyone having pets, don't want anything to do with them, and look down on people who may happen to have a dog or cat hair on their sweater, lol. So do you think they can be trusted? Is there a big difference? Does the dislike of animals indicate anything about a person?

Hi AmbiePam. No, I don't trust people who do not like animals. My experience of life give me this conviction. People who do not like animals have a short capacity of love and are egoistics too. They don't like nothing that doesn't give something in return (material things ). Those people care only about their selves. All the people I know that don't like pets are this way. And talking about it with anothers persons I discovered that all say the same. It give me the conviction that it isn't a coincidence only. I really can't trust people like these. Have a nice day.

I generally don't trust people easily, whether they love animals or can't stand one. But usually if I heard someone said they don't like animals (I have met someone like this) if I had a chance I would ask them "but will you hurt them?" and I would look at them in the eye when they answer, because I want to know if they are telling the truth when they answer "no" If I feel that this person is lying, then I know s/he is animal abuser or at least something is not right about them and I would keep my pet away from them as soon as I can or I would warn my friends or family about keeping their pets away from these people too A person that is scared of animals - honestly, not faking it, you can see it in their eyes or their body gestures when they mention about particular animal. They won't touch it let alone hurt or abuse it, thinking about certain animal will make them shiver already I know this because I love most pets, but I am scared of snake or eel, eels look like swimming snakes eewww yuck

Hehehe...are spiders animals? LOL Well, I kill bugs if they are in my house and don't leave on their own. I don't want to be best friends with a snake either. Each animal has it's place. I love dogs and cats, horses, and the regular type of house pets. I don't want a mouse, rat, hamster, etc in the house. But that's okay for those who do. I would love to go swim with dolphins. Farm animals are great and can be fun. Wildlife has its place and I love photographing it. Okay, so no....I am not going to classify spiders as animals....LOL.

I think it does. If they are afraid of an animal, it is one thing, but if they don't like any animals, I don't trust them as much. It's the same thing if animals don't like them. I think animals know if someone can be trusted.

Someone said to me 'you can tell a lot about a person when thay talk about their pets', the more I think of it it rings true as animals are family and give you unconditional love, loyalty and trust..they also can fill a void in your life that no human can...thsoe who do not have pets often can't understand this...but I wouldn't say a person without a pet cannot be trusted as it is different to everyone..but it does annoy me if a friend shuns away from my dogs as if they were aliens on the other hand too they could subconciously be saying that they don't like themselves and are empty in their own life..even down to the way they love people and treat people...there is a lot to be asked and anwered about this question and makes me want to know more..I'll probably ask my friend who is a psychotherapist about this LOL..a good discussion...littleowl

YES, I do trust people who don't like animals. Not everyone is an animal person. I have known MANY good people who did not like animals & I have met MANY bad people who were animal lovers. My main barometer has always been, does my animal like the person??? If my pet doesn't like somebody then I try to sit back & wait to find out why. My pet has NEVER been wrong!!!

I will still trust the person unless i can sense it that there is something wrong with him/her. But if he/she happens to be a law abiding citizen then there is no reason for me not to trust the person. I have nothing to do with him/her anyways lol so for as long as he/she is not a threat to me even if that person dislike animals i will still give my trust. I wouldnt trust the person though when it comes to my pet but when it comes to the safety of my family i dont think that he/she is a threat.Although i dont think there is a person who dont like any type of animals. People have different likes and dislikes when it comes to pet and i havent encounter a person who never like any kind of animals.

I have not met many people like that. However, I would not trust anyone like that. Not only that I would not want to be around them. How much fun can they be? People like that appear to be bitter.

I am trying to think if I know anyone like this..Because 2 people I wouldn't trust at all, both like animals..I mean there are people who don't like cats, but like dog and vice versa..Of people prefer pets like fish because they don't get hair everywhere.. Is there really such thing as a person who doesn't like any animal? Because out of all the people I am thinking of, friend, foe, past, present, I can't think of anyone not liking some kind of animal.

I've met a couple. One of them I was talking too, and they knew I had a dog that was part Chihuahua. They proceeded to tell me how stupid those dogs were, how people through their money away on animals, and how they don't feel bad at all when they see animals hit that end up beside the road. All this, and I hadn't even asked them for an opinion!

The short answer is no. However, some people seem to hate animals when they actually are only afraid of them. Those people I can live with. I have met people who don't like cats because they think they are "evil" or something. I had a solid black cat named Duffy, and really, some comments I got were just ridiculous. You know, how that was "unlucky" and what not? lol That sort of thing is just basically stupid and I don't really think much of people who are afraid of cats for those kinds of reasons. Years ago, I was in the hospital with double pneumonia in both lungs. A lung specialist and a nurse came into my room and one of them (I can't remember which) asked if I had any animals in my house. I said yes. Then they went on this long tangent about how animals were filthy and didn't belong in people's houses, etc. Those two, I definitly did not like. I don't know how they found each other, but they made a perfect pair of nuts! I love animals and can't imagine life without them!

I love Black cats! What I can't understand is how some people can believe them 'evil'. Too many 'witch' stories perhaps? I doubt that the 100's accused ALL had black cats! They would have been rarer then! They were also seen as a good luck charm because a solid colour was rare(unless they cross your path)so it's a bit ridiculous to believe either! I had a black one for seventeen years and my luck fluctuated just has it has through-out the rest of my life when I've had other colours! Your Doctor and nurse must be very old-fashioned and really out of touch! It's a well known fact in the medical profession that people who have pets, particularly cats (in the elderly or bed ridden), have lower stress levels and blood pressure than those who don't. As a community care-worker I've seen a difference and seen pet therapy in hospitals and care homes too and watched a patients monitor readings fall whilst she petted a dog!

In a lot of ways black cats are unlucky. 1)Many shelters don't let them get adopted in October, so they must spend that whole month in a tiny cage just because they are black. 2)Fewer people want to adopt them because of their "unlucky" color so their chances of getting out of the shelter alive are lower than cats of other colors. Stupid humans!!!! 3)If they are lucky enough to have a home and are allowed or escape outside they are in more danger than other cats. This is especially true around Halloween when evil people are likely to pick on them and harm them because they are black. Don't even get me started on people who harm cats. I could rant forever on that subject. That sounds darn unlucky to me. It sucks that they get all the bad luck because of something as stupid and irrelevant as color. I had a black cat when I was a kid. I want one again. But somehow every black kitten I have raised has been adopted out to really super duper good homes. The really good homes are hard to find, so I let them get adopted.

i don't think that just because you don't like animals you are inhumane, untrustworthy and unloving it depends what past experiences you may have had with them. I like dogs and many other animals but have a slight problem with cats as i was severely scratched by one as a child to which i still have a slight scar but i am a very loving and have a lot of friends that trust me and I have never looked down my nose at anybody that has cats because that is their personal preference

It would depend on why a person does not like animals. Have they, or some one close to them, had a bad experience in the past? Are they allergic? Maybe they grew up in a household where pets got more attention than they did, and there's a resentment issue? Is there some kind of phobia? Maybe an unreasonable fear of the loss of that pet, as unfortunately they do eventually die. If there is a motivating reason, then yes, I would trust that non-lover of animals. However, if the reason that they not like them is because they are so self-centered that they can't love any one but themselves...those people I would not trust. I find these people to be selfish bores, so I'm not apt to develope a friendship, let alone trust with them.

I didn't think about resenting them for getting more attention, that is a valid reason. I would hope they could overcome that someday.

If you like animals it's not mean that your kids will like them. But it's not mean that these kind of people are bad. There are many reasons why people don't like animals and before judge them you must to know why they don't like them. For example I have a brother he don't like animals. He don't like animals because when he was a six years old one dog bite him and he spend two weeks in the hospital. It's not mean that he is killing them, he just don't like them because something was happened to him when he was young.

Of course people would be afraid if they were bitten by a dog (two weeks ago I got bit by a dog and it split my lip. Ouch!). But I mean a person who doesn't like any animal whatsoever, someone who won't let their children have pets (which I also can understand because a lot of the time the parents end up taking care of the pet, and not the children). I don't think dislike of animals is passed down. I think children aren't that influenced by their parents when it comes to their feelings for animals. At least I wasn't.

it's not that I don't trust them, but I am not really close to people who doesn't like animals.as long as they don't hurt animals,I'm ok with them.if they do,well don't expect me to say hi or help them when they needs something.if they're disgusted because I have a cat hair on my dress..forget it!I don't need a "fashion advise" from people like them.

I love all animals, birds, insects, etc. I dislike people spraying a cockroach and leaving it to struggle. I know they have to be killed. Do it instantly. Treat mosquitoes and all other insects that are hazardous to human health likewise. About distrusting people who don't like animals, I totally agreed on that. I have had enough and more experience and have not found one trustworthy person who disliked animals. I'm not including people who fear animals, they can be given a margin. Most people who dislike animals, go all out to hurt them. My husband was one big example of this situation. (He is separated from us now). He used to offer people money to get rid of our pets quietly. My two sons love animals. My second one though is a little afraid until he gets used to them. Keeping pets at home has taught him a lot, and slowly his fear is going away. Now, if any animal on the street is hurt, he will make me stop to attend to it. An Editor of an animal magazine, whose experience is vast in this regard had advised us to be wary of people who disliked animals.

I think i will still trust them... but i would never ever trust a person who would hurt and animal like those who would hurt a cat or a dog just for fun... i think if they can do that to innocent animals... they most likely they would also do it to other people... There is a big difference between not liking... and hurting for game... so between the two... i think the latter is the worst one...

I can't help thinking that many of the cruelties in the world in general are by people who aren't compassionate toward animals...if you can't be compassionate and loving with animals, how can one be with people? Not to say that there aren't cruel people who abuse animals, there are unfortunately...but in general terms I think animal/pet lovers tend to love life and people better. I'm fortunate that every person I know, especially in "real" life are animal nutcases..LOL..and of course I know many on-line friends that are animal lovers..

It scares me when I read in the paper about young teens who have set cats on fire, or mutilated a dog. That is right on the path to harming a child or an adult.

No. I have never tusted people who don't like animals. Like you stated the kind of people who can't stand them. I believe that cats and dogs have a special instinct in regards to bad people. You can tell it in their reactions to them. My mother used to tell us don't trust and be leery of people that animals and small children don't like or take to. It has been proven to be right in my life over and over. One of the main reasons that I had a variety of cats and dogs around when my kids were small; was to see how they treated them. I raised them to know that animals are living breathing creatures of God, just like we are.

I think it is essential for children to grow up with respect for animals. I think parents who teach their children that give their kids a 'leg up' in life.

I used to know a guy that didnt like animals. He always said they smell. This man was the smelliest person i ever knew. Not from hygene but his feet smelled extremely bad and he had the worse gass ever. Worse than the 3 of my cats put together ever smelled. He sounds very much like the cold hearted selfish animal hating people mentioned in the discussion.

hi ambie, there is no relation between the nature of a person oand his liking for animals. i have actually seen some people who are good natured but just cant stand animals. like my friends cousin who happens to be friendly whenever he's around. but as the question asked that would i trust people who dislikes animals just for being animals then my answer would be YES. animals are the only living thing on this planet that is not trying to kill each other for nothing, they are loyal to you if you befriend them. i just cant seem to find any good reason to dislike animals. but inspite of all these many people dont like having pets or have fears from them like if u see a snake ur afraid.. so u dont like it.
