the pockets sewn shut? It is very frustrating. My only guess is that some people think the pants look or fit better without pockets, but I really like having pockets. I rarely buy pants that don't have pockets, and I hate when they are sewn shut because I don't really want to take scissors to a new pair of pants- I'm afraid I'll screw up and wreck them.
Any thoughts?

on the rare occasion i dont buy pants with pockets you seem get them with the pockets sewn shut theres no real pocket inside so..it doesnt make sense to open them up. A few times there has been the pocket available but sewn shut I take a seam ripper and carefully remove the seam from the pockets then use a needle and thread to reinforce the seam where i stopped ripping.
I hate pants without pockets too.

I've bought lots of pants that have real pockets sewn shut, and some with just the little decorative thing that looks like it should be a pocket. I'll try the seam ripper.

They also do this with mens suits, it is only a problem for me when they forget to take the treading out when I have it altered. I have to be careful taking them out, I have tore a hole in one beofre ripping out the treading.

Well I've no idea why the pockets are sewn shut on women's pants. But I prefer pants with pockets as they are convenient and give a smarter look.Have a good day!

I guess its because you guys have a purse to carry your stuff in, if they arent double stitched you could pull the threads out and turn it into a pocket.
