Why do people lie online?

I have noticed as I am sure other people have,how many people lie online when meeting people. Women are funny when they upload a magazine vixens picture and swear it is them, I have known people to do it lol. Men are funny doing the same thing and your like wow, so many beautiful people single online,lol. My question is why do it? Sure some people need to feel desirable and accepted by others but online? Especially if you are someone who looks for companionship online and choose to take the relationship to the next level, I think someone might notice your lacking six pack or your perfect tan lol. So why do people do it?

Ya, you gotta think that these people are really unhappy with who they are. On the internet, people have gotten used to the 'avatar' life. Be what ever you think you want to be, when the best thing is to just be yourself. If your not happy with who you are, then work to change, or improve, or fix, or what ever the insecurity is, this is an opportunity to interact with so many people that, hopefully, are not judgmental, dealing with their own self image issues, and just wanting to interact honestly, on an equal footing, and without prejudice. So, don't exaggerate, don't lie, don't cheat, Don't play games with people's emotions. Its ok to be who your are. Its ok to not be perfect. Its ok if your hair is falling out, your eyebrows are to thick, or your over weight, or your nose is big, it doesn't matter if your not perfect, because none of us are. And being perfect would be boring. What would you improve if there was nothing to fix? Be yourself cause that's good enough.

I have always found that ridiculous but amusing. I went to a dating site once and lo and behold not one woman in America weighs more than 110 lbs. Amazing really.
I'm sure women get the same nonsense.

People lack self esteem or are afraid to show their real self. I don't like people who lie about themselves. People can take you for a ride easily without realising that what they have revealed about themselves is a blatant lie.

It has to deal with low self-esteem, I believe. I think people are unsatisfied with who they are and being online gives them the opportunity to create the person that they wish they were. Myself, I tell the truth about who I am, what I look like, etc. If someone doesn't like me for who I am, then it's their loss. I am beautiful person no matter others may say.

If you were ugly would you still put up your picture?! I'm not, but I just love the picture I've put up but my real picture is in my profile!I guess people know that you get more attention from people if your picture is interesting or if you use someone else's pretty face!
