Oh, without a doubt, go with a Linux operating system
and you will have improved many things. Upgrade your memory,
hard drives and CPU speed, maybe buy a faster mother-board
and you would be sailing.
Me, I trust Gateway!

No, honey
The motherboard is the component, sitting inside your PC that
is where the "workings" of your PC attach to. It's not something
that "just" anyone can do. Go to any on-line PC store and look up
motherboards. You will see lots of slots, connections and things
that make your PC what it is.
Look at this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=13&name=Motherboards
Unless you know what you are doing, these aren't easy to explain.

Basically its a choice between Intel or AMD. The question is what you want to do with your computer. A computer with lower specs is sufficient for lighter applications ie clerical work, surfing the net. You will require higher specs for computer graphics and gaming. Go for the latest hardware you can afford since new products come out every few months.

In Computers, the best is always mainframes which a normal human don't need it. They are almost 1000 times (even more) better than a ordinary computer. For a ordinary person, according to my openion, better to have a asembled computer rather than a branded one. If you were upgrading your computer to a better one., just know a few details about how the computer is .
In computer, main parts are RAM, Processor, Motherboard, Hard disk and a cabinet apart from mouse, keyboard and monitor.
RAM may avialable in 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4Gb and even more. For any person 2GB RAM is enough. If you go for high capacity in any of these computer parts, the cost will increase more and more.
For example if you are buying 512 MB RAM may cost you 600 INR, and for 1 GB it is 1000 and for 2GB it is 1500 and for 4 GB it is 3500 and so on.
For processor, there are somany kinds you can go with. AMD and Intel are the best.
Intel pentium IV Dual core 1.6 GHz cost you 2000 INR where as 2.5 GHZ cost you 4000 INR.
It applies to mother boards also. I prefer the follwing computer for the normal operation. Just check with online portals about the kinds that are avialable.
