DOTA, can anyone give me info about this game?

I am a pretty avid PC and Console gamer and have just recently heard this game referenced by friends and other players. I have looked online and haven't found alot about it. Can anyone please give me some info on this game or references to get info about it? What does D.O.T.A. stand for?

personally i play about 4-5 hours of dota a day, and can say that im heading towards semi-pro status. Ive been playing for around 3 years now. Now DOTA is a warcraft 3 custom map, that is extremely popular. As the above poster has said, around 70-80 percent of all games on warcraft are dota. Dota stands for defense of the ancients. Go to www.dota-allstars.com for everything you need to know about dota. Once you go to this site you can go under the community tab, go to forums, and proceed to whichever topic you would like to learn more about.
