The true meaning of friendship

I was just interested to hear what people thought the true meaning of friendship is?
I personally believe that a true friend is someone who doesn't judge you, never puts you down, is always there when you need them and stands by you no matter what. I am very lucky because i have a couple of friends just like that. How about you?

True friends will always be there for you. Believe me how many friends did you had beside you if you're at the very deepest moments in your life. These are the friends that you should look into. It hard to come by by these people anymore nowadays.

You are quite right.
All the characters do make a good friend.
I just want to add one thing.
He/She must not be sooth sayer but a person who could criticize you on you face.
Of course that means criticizing and providing solutions for our actions.
I have many good friends according to your definition.
But only two people who tell me "You are making a mistake my friend, this makes other people uncomfortable, change that habit".
Now I think they should be at the top of list.
as they are not only friend but philosopher and GUIDE too.
