You can use Flash 8 for this purpose as it has a presentation portion. But if you are a beginner then better its better to use power point. Flash gives you more flexibility and more tools as compared to power point while power point gives you ease of use. The choice depends on your needs.

There are many choices for that, most can be downloaded for free but only the trial versions. If you are to use it too soon, make sure to use the user-friendly animations. For PowerPoint, just download effects, visuals and gif to create animation. It's not complicated.javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$cphMainContent$lbStart','')

That would depend on what kind of animation you are working on.
For gifs, you can try a number of applications from Tucows.
I am using one call gif123. Very easy to use and it is free.
The other programs that are good for animation are dreamweaver.
Director is also another program that you can consider if you are making short video clips of your animations.
Flash is also a good tool to use if you are gonna make animation. Coupled with Photoshop, the kind of animation you can come up with is only limited by your imagination!

I'd have to agree. You could go with Flash to design your own animation. Aside from having plain animation, you can incorporate interactivity with the viewer. You can still use Powerpoint as your staple animation program. It really depends on what you need to do. Simple presentations can be done in Powerpoint. You can also use Adobe Illustrator to show more effects or Windows Movie Maker (not sure if Vista has it though).

There are lots of great animation programs out there. But some are better for things like creating games. Others are best for creating animations for use on the web. So it really depends on what your purpose it.
Saying you want to incorporate animations into PowerPoint doesn't really help because it doesn't say what kind of animation you want. Do you want a "movie?" Do you want moving text? Do you want a slideshow of moving pictures? Do you want to morph one image with another?
Some commonly used animation programs are: Flash, Director, and Movie Maker.
