Do you wear reading glasses? At what age did you need to wear them?

So far, so good. I have not needed to get glasses yet (at age 44). I don't even need reading glasses so far. I am anticipating them soon however as many of my friends have ended up with them at this age. How about you?

Hello rocketj1 I wore glasses from the time I was old enough to, to the age of 7 when I had an operation to correct the squint in both my eyes. I have had regualr eye tests and I am glad to say that my eyes are still fine and don't need glasses for any reason.

well they had hoped that the glasses would pull my eyes straight and I went through the thing of having a patch over one eye to try and make the other work harder and strenthen it and then the patch would be swaped over the next day to try and strengthen that one. I think that between my parents and the doctors they decided it wasn't working and put me in for the op. They basically tightend the muscles in the eyes to pull them straight and it worked. I know someone who had this operation several times and although her eyes did improve they were never quite right. Had a bit of an up and down week really. Have had bad toothache for the last week but the pain got so much today I couldn't bear it and got down to the emergency dentist who has thankfully fixed though temporarily until I can get to see my own. I have had problems with dizzy spells for a couple of months but the doc says that my blood tests don't show anything abnormal. I should go back really but it is having the time. It might be caused from spending too much time on myLot!!

I have always had glasses since the age of 5 years old. It is only in the last 5 years or so that technology was available to make plastic lenses for me.

Do you mean plastic lenses for your frames or are you speaking of contact lenses?

Are the plastic lenses much lighter?

Yes plastic lenses for my frames. I have had glasses so long that going to contacts at this point would be just, well weird.

I started needing reading glasses at the age of 40, which according to the experts is the standard age. My husband also started wearing reading glasses when he turned 40 (though forcefully). He wears safety glasses at work so he had to order bi-focal safety glasses which he keeps on throughout the whole shift. Company insurance covered them.

I had to get glasses in high school. They were big and (looking back now) were ugly. I like glasses (not having to have them, but the look). I don't think I look as good with out them.

80's glasses were huge! I had a pair of frames with clear glass that I used as safety glasses in the dental office where I worked years ago. My daughter wore them to school on 80s day and everyone thought they were hilarious! And I thought I was so stylish back then.Bummer! Thanks:)

I was fortunate that both of my parents had excellent eyesight. That's why it is rather ironic that my oldest brother was born blind. Although it was not genetic is still seems weird. Thanks:)

No worries wearing glasses here at all,I have worn them for years, some of the designer frames that you get at the opticians now are fab,so bang up to date and in vogue.I realise that its an expensive day when you visit the optician, get the eye test and then get the prescription glasses, but I have no problems, they kinda make me look intelligent rofl.

They can be pretty stylish too. I don't know where you stand politically, but I just love Sarah Palin's glasses. If I had to get them, I'd get a pair of those. Thanks

Thank God my eyesight is still 20-20 until now, even if I am already 30 years old. I also read a lot. Sometimes until the wee hours of the morning! And what I do is I do not wash my face after reading or when my eyes are tired. this can lead to paralysis of the eyes.

Not to mention having to keep track of your glasses and not losing them. My husband buys very cheap reading glasses and keeps many pairs all around the house. Then he doesn't have to wonder where they are. Thanks:)

I will soon be 58 and I have real good eye sight. I can see for miles ahead BUT when I read a phone book, computer or cataloque I definately need a reading glass. This happened at about the age of 52 or so, but it hasn't got any worse and the eye specialist advised I do not wear the glasses unless I really need to.

Hi rocketj1, I started wearing glasses when I was about 15 and have to wear them all of the time. You are fortunate to have reached 44 without needing glasses. Blessings.

Good for you. It's hard to use reading glasses because it's as if it's making your eyes dimmer and dimmer as years go by coz you become dependent on it. I was 48 when I started using reading eyeglasses. The Computer destroyed my eyesight a lot so I can't manage anymore to read without glasses. Now I am 52 and almost totally dependent on reading glasses. I wish I could regain my 20-20 vision. I am taking of undergoing a laser treatment but I am still researching on the side effects.

My husband had laser surgery for cataracts a few years back. He used to need prescription glasses. Now he only needs reading glasses. He was glad that he had the surgery. Thanks:)

I think that your genetics and the job you do often determines the age at which you will need glasses. My started at about 24 I was doing close work under intense light and I think that influenced my need.
