Hi, mylotters! Recently I have several colleagues get a new job and some of them just change their English name for their new jobs while some of them still remain the old ones, like me. Yup, here in China we have to get an nglish name when working in foreign-invested corps, for convinience to communication with foreigners.
I am wondering for the reasons why people change to a new English name, just for fun or some other reasons? What about you? Do you prefer to a new name or yr old one forever...
Happy mylotting.

Depends on the person, some people like stability, some like adventure. In my last job I used my middle name (which is more international) with EVERYBODY, since I had just moved to a new town where nobody knowed me :D
Here on mylot, I started using this name, and this avatar, and slowly but surely a whole new Identity is building up around what I'm doing here, and this more 'colorful' part of my personality.
I think changes are good, since they allow us to discover new, fresh parts of ourselves, that we didn't know before.
Peace :D

I love my original name the name that was given me during my baptism. My real name is an English name already so I didnt need to change it. But whenever I go or went to different places I didnt use my real name, I had to use different nicknames. So people who knew or very close to me only knows my real name. In the Philippines I always used my real complete name but here in this country I don't, even at work I don't. Only the personal department knows my real name.

That's rather something new to me.. this is the first time I have heard (well read technically) about it..
Here in our country, we seem to just keep our names when we do get to work, even on foreign invested ones. Most of the names that you'd commonly hear around would be english anyway but, before when foreign investors weren't that abundant and I think it would still be those times of our parent's parents, the names would really be that of which you can distinguish as really innate in our country.
Well, even if I could choose to change my name upon applying for work, I guess I'd still keep mine since its already english even though I'm not (^_^")

i think i will do that too, because i think my recent English name is not so good as i think. so i want to change another one. The fact is that my English name sound like a unpleasant word. And my friends often take it as a jape, which make me embarrassed every time. So, i am going to change it.

I like my Bangla lenguage name. I love my country and my language. We shed blood to stublish Bangla as state language when we were under the rule of Pakistan.I hate to change my name to get a job. China is a great nation. It's culture is very rich. Ican't believe a Chinese can change his or her name for the shake of geting a job. It's really shameful.

I love my name
My new boss suggest me to change a new english name so that ppl wont make fun of my name because 'NANNY' = granny, baby sitter, and so on ..
However, i insist to stick to 'Nanny' (as printed in my IC)..
Luckily she respect my decision..Anyway, she's a gd superior..
I will say: I am proud for my name, in chinese and also in english!

Hi, Denise. I think it's more easier for the foreigners to remember your name if you have an english name. I don't have any english name. I'm lazy to search for it and i don't know which name is suitable for me too...;-) But, one of my foreign lecturer once said that my name is easy to remember and it's just feel like an english name. :-) I hope it's true, because i found that people tend to remember my name easily.
I think those people who change their english name may want to have a new start in the company, and let the past all behind. That's what i can think of. For me, if i have an english name, i will never change it. :-) Have a nice day.
