Well, my life updates are few and far between but hows that for a good one for once? Yep I got a job, I mean a 'real job' outside the home. It's not really what I wanted but seeing as how our town has one of the highest unemployments rates in the nation it was offered and I took it. $8.00 per hour, 40 hours a week - at a call center. I'll be calling people to remind them they owe the power company money and accepting calls for service problems and such for power companies across the nation. Hey who knows I may get to talk to some of my myLot friends:) I hate talking on the phone, hate even more talking to people I don't know but the money will really help and I hope to find a place of my own within the next 6 months. If you don't know, we are living with my sister and her son right now. It's nice beig with family and I really really appreciate my sister helping in my time of needing to move from where I was living but there are some problems/concerns also. So if your praying for us please continue... For the sake of discussion, have you ever worked for a call center or done phone work? Did you like it? Has there ever been a job you hated but did it anyway because you needed money? Hugs and love to all my friends - will be in touch when I can, orientation is Friday and I start training Monday. Oh, this photo is a house across the lake from my sister's house - it's a mansion and I'd be thrilled with half the house, LOL, I'd be thrilled to have the garage :) I wonder if these people truely appreciate what they have.

I'm glad to hear that you have a job now. Well, I've been working in a call center for almost five years now and was an agent for six months before I got promoted. I actually liked the work but the hours were gruelling and I got sick from the stress. It's a tough job. A lot of people do not realize how hard it is. Since my first account was for customer service, you bet I got quite a lot of irate people calling up and making a lot of demands. Sigh. That was tough but had to learn how to handle things like that. It's a good thing I have very long patience... or else, I would have probably ended up shouting at a customer as well. LOL.

LOL yelling at them would not be good. I'm more afraid I'll be hanging up on them or be crying alot :( I do hope I can manage it though because jobs are hard to find and I hate the thought of having to look for a new one. I commend you for doing it 5 years, I've never thought it was an easy job.

That is GREAT news and I will be praying, because I know what people like you go through..I have dealt with many calling us and I have had three different kinds call me.. 1. Some that are so rude, that this one guy actually started harrassing me, when it was completely out of my hands and I explained that to him too...So you might get some really rude people, because they don't like being put down or harrassed.. 2. Then there are some that are in the middle, they don't harrass the customers, but they also are not so very nice.. 3. Then there is the third kind that I am sure you will be most likely be like this..I am dealing with this guy reminding me of a bad check that was written before we got into the mess we are in now..He is so super nice when I explained our situation and that I am in the process of getting a job myself..He is so understanding, once I get a job and get this paid off, I am going to tell whoever he works for, how good this guy isand that he should be commended for his kindness.. So I will pray, that not only will you get the easy ones, but that you have the kindness to understand what these people are going through..Times are tough, and people who never had problems like this before, can be edgy, but with kindness and understanding, I am sure they will do their best...

I'm glad you found a job. I worked for liveops online but never in a real call center. I didn't like it though cause people were so rude sometimes. But maybe you will like it more than you are thinking you will. At least it will give you some money. And that picture you posted on here is a beautiful house. I would love to live in something like that.

Hello, byfaithonly!!! I am violet64. Isn't it crazy? Life, I mean. I haven't been on mylot in so long, but the discussions are sent to me daily in the mylot digest and I just HAD to respond to yours!!! I am 44, last year I began a job for $7 per hour, just AWFUL. I endured so much at this place. I stuck it out for one year, and quit, at $8 an hour. I had no job prospects, but then got hired in a retail establishment for 8.40 per hour back in April. I was so absolutely thrilled to be hired also. I live in Florida, it also has the highest unemployment rate. I am the only one that works in my home. I did work at a call center, when I was pregnant with my third child. I did not like that so much, but I was too huge to be a server, the thing I had done for twenty years or so! I wanted to respond to your discussion, especially now seeing that you are close to my age!!! If you had been 20, I probably would not have responded!!! I also love the photo. Seriously, don't you wonder if they appreciate that home? Really, my home is probably the SIZE of their garage!!! We must live by faith, byfaithonly, it is the ONLY way!!! With love, violet...

I'm afraid I really don't know how to help you with your accent but to keep practicing - listen to as much English as possible (movies, tapes, CDs whatever). I actually have a sister who works at the same call center I'm going to work for. She was adopted by my parents from Bolivia when she was 15 and spoke no English at that time. She still has an accent but because her first language was Spanish she has done very well as they needed workers who spoke a language other than English.

I had already started reading English novels, magazines and newspapers etc.., Hope that following you guidelines will help me better in improving my English. Take care and thanks for accepting my friend request..

Congratulations on the new job, with the economy the way it is, a job is a job. It's never fun living with someone else while your trying to save up for your own place. Worse when problems arise and they kick you out before you had enough saved up, so your forced to move into what ever you can afford. Our problems was that we knew the friend was cheating on her husband with countless men, and she was scared I would tell hubby when he came back from a deployment with the Navy. That was a interesting time in my life. I have never worked at a call center, at this point in my life, I would take any job I could get, just to get out of the house. After being a stay at home mom for 12 years, I want out. I feel like a caged animal, that gets poked at by kids as they walk by. Again, congrats on the new job.

Oh...Faith! I'm so glad that you got a job; even though it's not something you would've chosen if you could have. I used to work the 'phones' and for me, I enjoyed it. The one thing I liked was that the person on the other end didn't know who or what I looked like and that the call would end soon, moving on to another. I will keep you in my prayers about getting your own place soon as well. God Bless You my friend, your sister, and the rest of the 'clan'...

Well, it is not the kind of job I would want but I understand you are thrilled to have a job. And I thrilled that you got it given the problems that you have have. If you decide you hate it (IE get tired of people yelling at you and hanging up on you) remember that it is always easier to fid a job when you have a job. Trust me, my ear is nearly glued to the ground listening for that right opportunity. Congratulations

Congratulations on your new job:)I like to communicate with others and enjoy jobs where communication is a must. Not sure about a job where I was to remind people about missed payments though. But when we need one, a job is a job and that's all that matters. GOing to post this now to check the photo because I can't see it when I'm answering trough email. Big hug to you:)

first thing first, a big CONGRATULATIONS to you getting a job. it's not easy to find a job nowadays. what with the big companies cutting head count and things like that. i hope you will slowly learn to love your new job. it's tough getting a job, but it's even tougher to hold a job doing things you hate. i've worked in a company that does cold calling. that's calling up people who has no dealings with the company to sell them things. it's not a cosy job and we get scolded all the time. i quit after a few weeks as i hated going to work. every morning i'll lie in bed and think of excuses not to go to work. thankfully i found another job which doesn't require me to do things like that. good luck in your new job. cheers ;p

Congrats. ~ Ever since I was a teenager, I've talked on the phones, so talking on the phone came naturally to me as I used to work in a call center. Pretty much all of my previous jobs have been with some type of interaction with the public, whether it was in person or by phone. I enjoy people period. Maybe God has a plan for you where by he can use you to witness descreately of course on this new job. You never know, from what it sounds like, you like to keep to yourself, but like to interact with people online, as they won't ever get to know the "real" you. I'm not judging you, just my obversation of what you have written. However, if we are to be witnesses for God, we can't be ashamed of the life he has blessed us to lead/live. You are indeed blessed to have a sister that cares enough to allow you to stay with her. I did enjoy my working time at the call center. Now I work at my church, and ironically enough, I'm not in a call center environment, but I use the phones a lot on a daily basis, besides the phones, I get to interact with a variety of people, saved (believers) and unsaved (unbelievers). So that I don't forget to pray for you, I'd like to take the time to type my prayer right now and you can read, what i've said to God on your behalf. Father, in the name of Jesus, I lift up the young lady using the username of byfaithonly in the online mylot community. I thank you Lord God that you have blessed her with a new position and employment. I ask that you continue to give her strength right now to overcome any fear or aniexty of speaking to people over the phone. I thank you that the company will provide adequate training for her to be able to perform her job to the best of her ability and excel above and beyond the company's standards. As she continues to show herself faithful in this position, open up doors for additional promotion and financial increase. Renew her confidence in you, so that she knows that you are with her always, and will never leave her or forsake her. Allow your love that has been shed abroad in her heart to be able to permeate from every conversation and interaction with other people. Finally allow all others to see you everytime they see her in the natural. In you Jesus name I pray with thanksgiving unto you. Amen.

I've done jobs I didn't like much. I try to think of them as a stepping stone - I do this job for a while, and I can show that I have a work history, so i can move onto another position. At any rate, in this economy, anything that pays a few bills is a good thing. I hope you find the environment pleasant - good coworkers can make all the difference!

Hi byfaithonly, It's great that you got the job. Jobs are scarce these days. The headlines in our newspaper today said that there will be more retrenchments and that would mean more jobless people around. I'm not working at this moment by choice. I wanted to take care of our daughter until she goes away to school. In the meantime, I'm looking for other ways to earn online. Mylot being one of them. I'm also looking into other writing sites. Last month I hit an all-time high earning of more than $100 online. But I doubt that will happen for this month. But I have faith and will continue to pursue my interest and hopefully, there will be something good out of this. I couldn't wait to get out of my last job. I was teaching students in a secondary school a subject many of them hated. As such they do not pay much attention to it. Even though the pay was good, I had wonderful colleagues and if I stayed they would have offered me a higher level position. But I gave it all up. I did not find the students appreciated me. I think many teachers in the school felt the same way. Many left after I did and that was only a few months ago. Students nowadays do not seem to respect their teachers much and soem of them do not even care about their education. I remembered working part-time during my college years as a salesperson. I was supposed to market a course to companies. The course was not cheap but I did manage to get some sales out of it and was happy with the commission I got at the end of the holiday job. I had to do a lot of marketing, calling potential customers to entice them to participate in the course. I think you will have an easier job. You just need to inform them that they owe money. Although many would not like that, but I think you will do just fine. All the best in your new job!

That's really nice, there are always someone who actually does job hunting and gets a job eventually, while there are always someone who actually does try his/her best on job hunting and still NEVER gets a job!!! (of course, that is me) sigh... yes, I live in the town where it has one of the HIGHEST unemployment rate in the nation, and I just can't happen to get a job -_-;; are there actually a website that I can go to, just to see the openings in a job? I've been driving here and there to look for a job, I end up with no phone calls and I end up just wasting gas for nothing -_-;; well that's really great that you got a job :) happy posting
