or do you just pick things in the shelves and put them in the basket/cart once you're there? i DO make a list, but i'm not rigid at following what's on it. so what's the point in making one, you ask i do it so that i could more or less know what stuff needs to be restocked at home and make a rough estimate of how much money i need to bring or withdraw (if the money is still in the bank).
so, do you make a list of items to buy before actually going to the grocery?

I'm quite similar to you in list-making. I write down things that we need as I think of them, so I remember those things at least. I don't remember to put everything that we need on the list, but I usually remember other things as we go around the supermarket and I see them. I figure that if we really REALLY need something, then I'll remember to put it on the list. If something doesn't go on the list then there's a chance we might forget to buy it (although we might not), but if we do it's not so bad, as we don't really REALLY need it!
This logic works for me anyway, lol!
So, I agree with you, even if you don't put everything on the list it is still useful!
(p.s. very cute picture of your sweet girl in your avatar!)

Yes, I think lists are a good thing, but they're not totally foolproof!
The worst thing is when I spend time making my list of important things, and then I forget to bring the list,

yeah. but still there are times when i forget to put in the cart something very important. so annoying, when i have attacks of short-term amnesia inside the grocery
thanks for the compliment, by the way

No need to make a list.
Just hang a notepad on the wall and whenevr while working u see something to be out of stock or need something write it down.
And while u go on shopping just edit and also buy stuff that u see in store not on list.
This way u wouldn't be hard on your wallet and still save time and bring in planned stuff

hmm..i don't do that. but now that you said it, maybe i'll do it from now on. it'll save me time. the way i do it is to check to see what needs to be restocked before i go to the grocery. but you have a good suggestion there. i have never thought of doing it until you posted that answer here. thanks for the recommendation!

I make a list of things. I acutally make a list as I run out of stuff then when I go to the store I take that list. I buy everything on it but most times will add stuff to the cart that isn't on it. I don't stick to just what is on the list. It's just stuff I have to get and cannot forget so I write it down.

I always write a grocery list whenever we have to get our groceries! But my problem most of the time is I always forget to bring my grocery list and forget so many stuffs that I need to get! Typical situation for a person like me that have a such a good memory, lol!

I honestly dont make a list when I go grocery shopping. The day we go I look in our fridge and cupboards and take a long look at what we have so that I know what we need when we go. But after we get home with the groceries and get them put away that is when I usually relize that my memory is not as good with remembering food items needed as it is with remembring numbers. So I will sit there and say great I forgot a couple things and that is when my hubby says I told you before you should keep a list but then I dont make one ever...lol

that's the main reason why i make a list. i don't wanna go "oh, shoot, i forgot to buy this and that stuff again". the list really helps because when i don't make one and i forgot something really important, it's a lot of effort going back to town (we are a 20-minute drive away from the groceries) and buying just a thing or two. anyways, thanks for sharing!

When my family and I went to grocery store, we make a list before we left the house. Those are the things needed in the house for stocks for the following week. But when all those listed items were already inside our push cart, my sister, brother and I have additional items for our own needs that are allowed to be bought by our parents. Those are our supply for the week like for our bath needs, bedroom need and other are for munching need!
That's why sometimes, our parents went to grocery store without us knowing because we have lots of needs that are all in all are expensive. So we will know that they went on grocery when they arrived home.

Hi kaye. When I do the grocery, most of the times I don't bring a list along with me. I just remember the things on the house that needs replacing or replenishment. A calculator application of my cellphone comes in handy during this time. The stuffs I put in, I look at their price tags and try to make partial totals as I go along the way. This way, I keep track of how much I'll be spending and buying based on the budget I have.

I used to before, that is to save time, when I gave birth to my youngest baby, we need to hurry up grocery time and so I make list. Now I don't, we have a technique on doing our grocery, that is we start from the last aisle down to the cold cuts and freezer aisle, in that way we can not miss anything. Basically our grocery list is the same every pay day. We buy formula, canned goods, cooking oil, frozen food, soaps, etc. The same boring list

i always make it a point to make a list of what i need before going to the grocery. in this way i know which food/things are need to be prioritized. at times i would go around the house checking what is missing, say, the bottle of vinegar is half empty, things like that. in the list i would usually put a rough estimate of the item & the rough estimate of the whole grocery list. although i have a budget for grocery & stuff i would give an allowance in any case that i would pick items not in the list. we all know we can't help that instances. lol
i have OC so aside from the list i have a routine in the supermarket that i need go down all the aisle in abn orderly manner. in this way if i see an item not in my list which i think is important (or at times not, hehe) i could go ahead & put it in my cart. admit it, we all hate going home with some things we were'nt able to buy... happy mylotting!

I make a list sometimes and I tend to stick to it when I make it but I also buy anything else that pops to my mind while I'm shopping.

It depends.
when I'm shopping for personal supplies and hygiene, I don't make a list because they are the same things every month: blade for my shaver, my deodorant refills and a pack of hotdogs and a pack of sweets. That's all.
However, if I'm tasked to buy something for our little store, I always make it a point to have my mom give me a list so that if she misses anything, she won't be nagging me about it.

Well, I do know roughly what I want to buy when I go for grocery shopping, but I always didn't make a list before I go, though I always wanted to make the list. Sometimes, I'll just go to the supermarkets or grocery shops and get what I want to cook for the whole week, or just see which vegetables are fresh and cheap. I usually use credit card when I go supermarkets for groceries, so I don't need to estimate how much I'll spend. But I think it's a good idea to make the shopping list, as you'll know what you'll buy, also roughly how much you'll spend. Just, it's hardly for me to make this a habit.

I occasionally make a list. If i only need a couple things then I make a list so I just get those items and nothing else. But the monthly grocery shopping I usually jot a few things down, then just buy things at the store. I get the usual things and then find the other stuff that I need. We buy the same things every months so it is easy to remember what all we need. I like to have a list when I have coupons for items, so then I don't forget to use them or buy them. A lot of times I just go off of what we need, and not worry about the cost. Since we get everything the same, it usually comes out to be around the same amount every month.

Honestly, I do make a list. But unfortunately, I always tend to buy other things not included in my list. Specially if there will be a sale of my favorite products. But aside from it, I only buy those things that are really needed like foods(included here are meat products & milk), laundry soaps/powder, personal hygeine products. So maybe I just have to bring with me an even amount of money so that I can not buy some extra one's. Happy mylotting!

No I don't make list before going to grocery. When I go to grocery I first pick up those things which are out of stock in home. Then i pick up those things which i like there.
