with everything that is going on , is it actually a good time to buy a house?? Maybe be able to get one for dirt cheap. I would love to just have some land though and build a house of my own. I dream about that - I would love to build a totally "green" house from the ground up.

Ok, it all kind of depends on if you wish to keep the house for a long time or if you are looking to sell after a couple years. From the sound of it, it looks like you want to stay in this new hypothetical green house of yours. Sounds nice. So i would say that prices are pretty good now, and over time things should improve in the economy so from a long term perspective I would make a move. Good Luck

I'm not sure its the good time to buy a house. The price of the house will probably be lower than it used to be, but I think you might not get a loan from the bank. Or you must be able to put a lot of own money in the house?
I do think that if you have a house, you shouldn't sell it now, because the price you're gonna get for it is maybe not enough. In a couple of years the prices of houses probably rise again, so until then we'll stay at our place and don't go anywhere! There are a lot of houses here in our neighbourhood that people are trying to sell for ages now! And a double mortgage is not a good idea! Especially not now! Good luck with making a sensible decision about moving or not!
