"Making it work" seems like a a cause for pushing out minimally constructed things. Although there doesn't seem to be too much design involved it's more of a show about being a good seamstress. I'd like to see someone "design" and someone follow the designer's ideas and construct the pieces. By emphasizing design over constuction the contestants are judged more on design and managing a group of workers.
