Does anyone know if there is a way that i can self-publish my book for free? I have been writing this novel for over 6 years and am just about finished, when I looked into self-publishing everything I came across was so expensive. Is it possible to do this for free or am I kidding myself?

That is why I am not going into self=publishing. What you should do is look for an agent. Most agents do not want the money out front. You will of course have to have enough money to get extra paper to print out the book, more than once. And of course, you will need money for stamps or get them at the post office, etc. The agent gets the money from the commission on selling the book.

At this time I just do not have that kind of extra money, I have six kiddos still living at home. Maybe when they are grown I can try again and be able to make it real.

Yes, you are kidding yourself. If you think your story is good enough you can submit to publishers who are looking (or look for an agent) and then YOU will get paid upfront before they even publish the book. Anywhere else you have to pay if you want to make money yourself. If you don't care about making money you can start a blog and post your story on there.
The best place to go to is lulu.com. You have to pay but they have reasonable prices and great services and I know people who have had great success with it.

Oh, that is just so discouraging. I guess I knew it would not be so simple but with the advances in the world and the internet I thought maybe there was something out there. Thanks for the response.
