What's the strangest thing you feared as a child?

I hated dirt when I was a child. Couldn't stand it. I didn't like dirt anywhere near me. And, that meant I couldn't play outside with my brothers or have fun like other kids. Then one day, I got so sick of my paralyzing phobia of dirt that I went out into the yard and rolled in the dirt. After that I wasn't upset by dirt. I faced my fear and lived! What was your greatest phobia or fear as a child? Do you still have that phobia?

I was afraid of monkeys. I saw the Wizard of Oz and the flying monkeys really scared me. I hated going to the zoo, the circus or any where that there might be monkeys. That is actually a pretty scary movie for little kids to watch. I am not sure at what age I stopped being afraid of them but I know for a long time I was. I am not afraid of them any longer but I still don't really like them. Some people think they make good pets but I would never want one. They can be pretty mean and they are pretty stinky little creatures. I like watching them on the discovery station but that is good enough for me.

I was afraid of three legged people. I swear, I saw a pic of a three legged person in a magazine once. Guess it was photoshopped and fake. But I was four. I didn't know that.

I used to hate stinging centipede. Most people think those things are harmless and they're not.

I was so scare at dogs, I'd shake at the sight of one near me. Eventually, I gave up ever since my cousin's dog kept jumping on me. LOL! I also learned how to stand really still when a dog came to smell me. Somebody told me dogs would run after me the more I ran away from them and that the best thing to do was stand still until they trotted away.

All creepy carwlies made me run and though Im not that scared of them today, i still cringe when I see them. The thought of a cockroach or a lizard anywhere near me was enough to make me scarmble to safety. Ugh !

I stop eating egg as a child and my father says that one of his grandmother stop eating it . He said that she asked for an egg eat it and then die. From hearing this story I always have phobia were egg is concern. I was afraid that if I eat one then I will die. But then I realized as an adult that it was a phobia because I have ate egg since adulthood and I am still living.

When I was growing up, I was the biggest chicken out there. I had a fear that I was going to be stolen when walking home from my girlfriends house. Actually, my girlfriend and I were both terrified of this. She lived up the street from me, but to get to each others house, we had to cross a street. We would walk together to the corner and then turn and run as fast as we could to our house. The houses weren't that far apart either.

To be honest with you I cannot think of anything that I may have had a fear of, I was pretty resiliant. The only things that I can think of are I could not stand to touch blankets, they would make my jaw ache really bad if I touched one. The only other thing I can think of is that I had a fear of the upstairs part of the pub we lived in. My parents ran a pub, it was massive and it had a two storey flat above it where we lived and my bedroom was up there and at night I would go to the top of the first set of stairs, get to the second set and would run as fast as I could to get to my room. I would be in tears when I got there, I do not know why but it was the most frightening place I have ever lived.

I have this crazy phobia with doctors. You know as a child you have all kind of shot for your immunization and that kills me every time i saw a doctor. My body chilled like crazy and i do all kind of excuses if im sick just not to go to a doctor and of course my parents would not listen because i need it, so every time i visit in the hospital im closing my eyes in order not to saw a men wearing complete white uniform. Im glad i get over with that., but i have new phobia tough it is the niddle now. Oh....well , what can i say, it just me.

Believe it or not, when I was four years old, I remember being scared of...our Christmas tree! And I'm not kidding either. Basically what had happened, I had seen the movie Gremlins for the very first time. There's a scene in the movie where the Gremlins are hiding in, you guessed it, the Christmas tree. In the scene, the main character's mother is attacked by the Gremlins in the tree. Somehow, I convinced myself that there were Gremlins hiding in *my* Christmas tree and were going to jump out to eat me if I got to close to the Christmas tree. Fortunately, that was one fear that didn't last long.

That movie creeped me out too! I was lucky not to see it until I was a teen though. By then, nothing bothered me.

I can still remember a child screaming everytime he is in a very dark place. When electricity runs out and no bright light, he is very afraid. Yeah, this child is me! Indeed it a fear of dark places. I don't know why, maybe I am afraid of the person who is in the dark that may appear.

Growing up, I had a fear of neighbors...........I didn't know what neighbors were. One night, I guess I over heard my parents and some of their friends talking about the neighbors. I don't remember what was said about them, I just remember thinking that they couldn't be good things. And, since I didn't know what they were, I thought they may be able to get into my room from the closet. So, the closet doors always had to be closed. I am no longer afraid of the neighbors, but I still go through and make sure all the closet doors are closed before I go to bed.

I fear of heights and i still have that until now. I dont like heights at all. When i am in high places i get dizzy and i started fainting. My knees start to shake and i cant even move or walk. That is how scary i was of heights. I wish i can overcome my fear though.

I was terrified of drafts. Every fall my dad would go all around the house sealing all the doors and windows with weather stripping. When I asked him why he told me that he had to make sure the drafts couldn't get into the house in the winter. Being a little kid I had no idea what drafts were and I became terrifed that they were trying to get into the house to get me!
