is religion so much necessary for human beings to lead a happy and peaceful life?
can't man see his fellow beings as his brothers and lead a happy life without taking anything else into considerations? we can see that most of the violence evolve mostly from a religious group. let it be Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Jew.
So, the question remains... is there really a need for a religion???

Hi nitin! I've been asking that question for years. Human are thinking sentient creatures and should be able to get along no matter what. But human nature and human ego will never allow it. We are stubborn creatures who would rather believe in religion than reason. Religion has never brought people together only found ways to divide them. The world needs a new way to think instead of react. In my opinion, as long as religion exists there will be fighting over which one is right when we should be thinking they are ALL wrong.
Welcome to myLot by the way!

there are many religions in the world but we have one aim "to believe in God". for me it is not necessary to have a fix religion just to be save by god, its about how much faith we have to follow the word of god. God will understand at all times and will not leave us to the hill if we are a strong believer.

Transcix, go back and read what patzel said. The word "many" was used not "all".

I think that unfortunately for some ppl in the world having religion IS necessary for their happiness etc etc..I say "unfortunately" because true happiness DOES NOT come from ANY outside source be it family, friends, material things OR any higher power....I personally believe that its NOT necessary for happiness and in fact one shouldnt really get TOO religious UNTIL AFTER they've found the happiness in their core on their own if that makes sense...
As for me, I know I'm very happy in my life and I'm not a religious person at all..Spiritual yes but no not religious.....

I say we can do without religion.
I've always wondered about this question and I've wondered if we can't all live as people - just people. Without any distinction or separation along religious lines. I've always felt that religion has done more harm than good to the world. We've fought so many wars in the name of religion through the ages and still do. So, what good is religion really? I am not saying that you stop believing in God or question the existence of God.Do believe in God and do worship God in whichever way you choose to worship Him. But, do you have to subscribe to any particular religion to affirm your faith in God? You can connect to God without buying into a broader set of beliefs.

Religion arouses dark emotions in people and makes them do things that they normally wouldn't do. Religion brainwashes people into believing that something that others would consider bad and inhuman, is in fact good and worthy of reward. We think religion gives us an identity, but does it really? What it does is to give us a particular set of beliefs that you normally can't question and have to blindly follow. It might be illogical to you, but yet you follow it. It might not make any sense, yet you follow.Religion blinds us to logic and reason. We don't see things for what they are, but rather for what they should be.

You know, the funny thing about religion is that all religions promote love, peace, etc and yet so many wars are faught over religious differences. Like you said, a lot of violence evolves from religious groups. If everyone just truly followed these teachings, instead of getting caught up in all this "I'm right, you're wrong" then we'd finally obtain that "world peace" that everyone is always dreaming of. So back to the question "do we really need a religion?". Even when we all have the same goal, even when we are all saying the same thing, we still find something to fight about. No, I dont think we really need a religion. There are tons of families that don't claim a religion and the parents still teach their kids basic ethics; what's right and what's wrong. But I think it is important to believe in "something" and I think religion helps guide a lot of people.
