It seems to me that when i begin to read certain post i can clearly recognize racism. Sometimes it is obvious and other times it is more conspicuous. And many/most of the replies are equally prejudice. Now i am not saying that disagreements about different topics are prejudice in nature but some of the posters content can be racially offensive and downright ignorant; my bad racist. It seems that they are not really open minded, they are not looking for differences in opinion but someone to agree with their own racist attitudes. Sorry for the rant, but i just commented to someone on a post who made a blatently racist statement and i had to correct this person and "put this person in their place".

I believe that people see what they want to see. You can see racist remarks in anything if you look hard enough and it seems to me that is just what you are doing. You can read almost anything into what other people are saying, especially online when you can't see peoples expressions.
Calling people racists without solid proof, is being prejudice too. So that makes you no better than a racist.

Well why is it that when i read 99% percent of post i do not see even hints of racism. It is only certain people, certain topics, certain posts. I am not looking hard for anything. Riptide dont make an a$$ of your self by assuming what i look for. I look for post that interest me, and i have something to comment on. I am all about acceptance, free will and promoting positivity. I dont look for what i dont want to find (racism, prejudice, bigotry, ignorance, etc). It is sad that i cannot even run from it. I am intuitive and i trust my instincts. If am reading a negative post which contains negative racist undertones then i know it. A racist doesnt alway have to be blatently racist in order for others to recognize it. i have injustly called one specific person on this board racist and i have since apologized. I have admitted my ignorance, learned from it and move on; it is sad that many people never will. Peace.

only certain people and certain topic.
then you are prejudiced against those people and chose to see racism in what they say cause in your head you labled them already.
i suppose you are the be all end all of labels and you should be consulted whether a person is racist or not.

The professor is right.
Racism is being prejudist and by judging these people you are being prejudist and therefore no better then what you accuse these people off.
And as you admitted yourself, you were wrong about this one person, so therefore you prejudged them and so what makes you think you are not prejudging these other people? And who are you to judge anybody anyway?
If this is not the pot calling the kettle black, then what is?

This is a post that took a lot of courage to start! People are sometimes quite understandably very touchy about being called racists or even to have that hinted at in a way only they pick up on, believe me I know! I've been reamed out rather soundly on more than one occasion for wording something a little wrong to the point where some here took me to be accusing them of being racists and once that's been done it's very hard to undo. However, I stand by the things I said which were that there are some very bigoted people out there who have preyed upon those who have a "fear of the unknown" in most of these disgusting e-mail forwards that have been circulating about Obama for months now. It's a classic case of "If the shoe fits...".

Thanks for the compliment. I am just sick and tired of people who are prejudice cowards hiding behind words to appear to not quite racist, but a just a little bit racist as so not to be accused of being racist. I am out in the open with everything i believe in my heart of hearts. I try to do everything 100%, if i believe in something i am balls to the wall; all the while i still respect others and others rights to disagree with me. I will not be cowardice. I will not be afraid to express myself in an intelligent civil manner. We all have that right no matter what our opinion is. What really matters is the respect, and acceptance that we give to others no matter what out own personal beliefs and opinions are. live and let live. Peace.

"Sometimes it is obvious and other times it is more conspicuous."
redundant much? obvious and conspicuous? did you consult the thesaurus because you would see they are synonymous.

hi tsallis be careful in calling us racists as sometimes we read a lot of stuff into something being said that is not really racist in order to be politically correct. I havent really seen this type of thing in mylot yet, and hope not to either. But sometimes remarks can be misconstred too. nobody that tries to be fair minded wants to be called a racist but somtimes people start looking for it and find something that was not meant to be racist and turn it all around. so be careful.

you constant need to tell people not to make an a$$ of themself is really condescending and unneeded. how about you take your own advise and stop making a$$ out of yourself. you so high and mighty and self important. your arrogance and constant need to let people know you think you are educated is looking down your nose at others. you are the epitome of what you complain about. you just don't see it cause you seem to think you are highly intelligent. though you are redundant, rude and confrontational. you make this discussion hoping to find people to go off on and you found it. congrats to you. i think you are pushing your own deficits off on others by calling them racist or whatever. you are a self loather and i pity you.

Prejudice and racism are slightly different, with prejudice being more widely applicable. Yes, I see what you are talking about. See, this is how it works.. I think. People with a certain bias read posts by others with the same bias. They add said people as 'friends' in order to follow their discussions. Therefore, when you see your friend A make a post, you can jump right in and know you'll have the backing of other similarly minded people.
And prejudice could be on any topic important to you. Abortion, gay marriage, politics, race relations.. so long as people can clearly define themselves into certain camps and understand that these other people share their beliefs.
Unfortunately, some people are worried about their star ratings and participating in a discussion "hounded" by a certain prejudiced mindset will probably get you flagged negative simply for the crime of disagreeing with their preconceived notions. I have seen more than a few posts about people complaining, "Dropped X star ranks for having a different opinion." That or words similar in intent.
Personally, I don't care about star ratings, but I do dislike arguments and people who won't at least try to see another point of view. To that end, I think some people on the boards who focus on more universal, light hearted, and less controversial topics may ultimately have a happier experience on MyLot.
I hope you have a good day and I can certainly feel your frustration.

Most people will jump in to support people with whom they agree. Some issues are very difficult to discuss without bringing racial issues into it, and there are some things that are very difficult to say without sounding racist to someone. And many genuinely open-minded people disagree with some specific things that are generally accepted as having helped eliminate racism (affirmative action as a specific example). Good for you for speaking out against something you found to be wrong.
Speaking out against stupidity educates everyone except the stupid.

sorry but it really irks me when people with high ranking stars make fun of us who had tens and were hounded down to a small number, then gotback to maybe an 8 as if our concernswere stupid, wellits real easy to say that stuff when your own star is a 9 or 10,I notice those of us with 8 or less never poke fun at those of us who lost star ranks because of someone's meanness. It was not my fault at all,yet I went down from 10 to 6 in one night, thats fishy and so mylot also agreed, and banned two people who were hitting minus on my postings all night long.We didnt just imagine this, it really went on.

I'm not sure if you're suggesting that I was making fun of you or belittling you or your concerns. I responded to the discussion that was posted - there was nothing in there about ratings or stars, and nothing that pointed to a particular discussion. Of course there are racist people - but I've also seen lots of things taken as racist that aren't. Also as far as a high-ranking star? Today is the first day that mine has been above a 7. I post in politics and -regularly- get dinged.
