The other day i was at my grandmas house and she had this very serious look on her face as she handed me a letter from thr credit Beauro. She told me to open it beacause that was the second bill she had got in my name at her adress. I was completely shocked. So i oppend the bill and apparently i owe $55.00 to a certain place. I was like what the hell, my mom paid for that and it was not under my name. But apparently now if your linked to a relative you get a bill. For one i cant afford to pay that amount right now. We are trying to make ends meet as it is. And now i have no choice but to let it go down on my....CREDIT i was building up. So what am i supposed to do? I never even got a bill from the place and they just sent the credit beauro after me........should i even have to pay for something that is not mine.

No, you should never have to pay a bill that is not yours. You probably need to contact all three credit bureaus and find out what it says about you. Then, you can write to the credit bureaus explaining that the bill is not yours, and that information will be included in your credit bureau file. I would also contact the company that is billing you and let them know the bill is not yours. If your mother did, indeed, pay the bill, then you'll need to provide proof of that.

If you ask me it is just someone trying to stick this person with things that they can notr pay and letting some other person take the fall. I would not give in to what i know i do not owe.

You shouldn't have to pay it. Does your mom have a similar name as yours? Get the proof of your mother's payment and submit it to the credit bureau. That should take care of it.

In my mind it's not right to do that, but depending on the laws where you are, I suppose it's possible that they can hold you responsible.

You should not pay the bill that is not yours. If you are paying the bills that is not yours, you are simply agreeing that the bill is yours only. If they had a toll free no call the number and inform the bill is not yours. If they have your personal banking details you have to meet them and let them know that the bill is not yours.

Does your mom have a canceled check or receipt showing that the bill was paid? You would need to get a copy of your credit report. Since it has already gone to a creditor you can't go back to the office that the bill originated from. I'm not allowed to paste links yet but go to www.bills.com and look under Debt Help for "settle with creditors." It has some good advice about settling debts with credit bureaus and disputing inaccurate accounts on your credit report.
