When i was young i was enjoying to watch different type of scientist programmes. Ever cartoons was learning us how to live. Now changed everything. Yes we have a lot of geography channels, scientist channels etc but kids don't want to watch them. They are not interested anymore in good old cartoons they need an action cartoons with a lot of violence. Kids became inactive all what they want is to watch TV all day and play computer games. I have restrict rules at home. Kids are aloud to watch TV only in evening time for about an hour and only if they were good all day. If they don't listen they must to read a book during this time. What situation do you have?

First off, I really admire the way you're setting discipline for your kids. For me, it's really important for them to understand limitations and rewards. Basically, TV programs do offer good source of knowledge for the kids. It is often times better to have them watch a channel that's dedicated to educating kids. We have knowledge channel here which teaches math, science, and more. Cartoon network and Disney channels are ok for kids' entertainment. They'd probably choose these channels over the knowledge channels. Oh by the way, we are on the same process in instilling discipline. Rewarding more time for entertainment and limiting use of TV and hours of play time.

Discipline is very important in our house. I think kids must to understand what is good and what is bad. I hope you won't have a problem by installing discipline,

You're right. It's really as simple as that. Knowing what's good and what's bad. Well, I would really observe how they'd react with such limitations and how they would do their best at their work to get those rewards for them. I'd adjust accordingly. Take care.

I have found TV to be very educational for my children. It all depends on what's being viewed. My children love to be around me. I watch mostly the History Channel and National Geographic and recently due to the election, I watch CNN and MSNBC. My children climb into bed with me and watch with me. They ask me questions about what they view on TV. We discuss everything from history to politics. They are better informed than some adults I know.

I agree that geography and history channels can help with education. Especially if your kids are around 10 years old or older. But if your kids will have a freedom to choose what to watch will they choose these channels?

I do let my kids watch t.v. my 13y/o loves educational shows but my 12y/o likes cartoons which some i let him watch but most of them i don't. If they have violence or smart-mouthed kids in them they are off limits!
