How do you get refferals

I'm trying to refer people to one of the sites I use but no one wants to join (the link is in my profile) how do you usually get people to join your site?

I got many of my referrals in CashCrate just from using myLot. It was maybe three months back when I did this, but when I saw new discussions created by people asking how to make money online, I responded by telling them about CashCrate. I also showed them my website which had my referral link.
