Did you ever have your heart set on a specific cake and
find out you don't have the right ingredients to make it?
Well, that's what happened to me! I wanted to make a yellow
cake with buttercreme frosting. I ended up making a pumpkin
bread cake instead! So, it's my birthday and I don't know
what it's going to taste like but it's in the oven and
I'll let you all know! Did this ever happen to you and
what was the result?

Happy Birthday, Opal!!!!!!! Hope your pumpkin bread cake turns out really yummy. Just think that you're going with the fall season theme for the cake.
I have had several boo-boos in the kitchen especially when baking but that's how you learn. I once tried to make a "Mango Tres Leches" topped with mango buttercream cake to bring to Boyfriend's mom's house for a dinner dessert. I had to make the cake from scratch, with flour and all the good stuff. It turned out okay but it was very different from what I imagined.
So I learned from that experience and for mother's day, I tried to do it again. This time, I bought a yellow cake mix and started from there and it turned out finger-licking good.

For me it would be pie for my birthday. Love pie better than cake. I have started out many times thinking I would bake a specific thing and wound up baking something else. It all depends on my mood and the staples I have on hand in the pantry.

Can't say that it has ever happened to me only because when I bake a cake it is not from scratch it is from a box mix. The pumpkin bread cake does sound good and I am sure it will turn out delicious. Happy Birthday and I hope your day is a great one.

Happy birthday and lucky family that you have when you make your own birthday cake for them to eat. Well, I would take the pumpkin cake over the yellow one any day of the week, and buttercreme frosting would be just fine, or cream cheese frosting or even no frosting at all! May I have French vanilla ice cream with my slice, please?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OPAL!!!!!
::helps Opal blow out all those candles::
Yes - I was going to make the Super Easy Surprise Cake for the first time and thought I had bought a spice cake mix to go with the apple pie filling, but I had yellow cake instead. I knew it wouldn't ruin it, but I had my heart set on spice, so I added cinnamon to the yellow cake mix. It wasn't as spicy as the mix would have been, but it wasn't plain either. It turned out pretty good.

Hi Rosekitty! Yes I did see it and I wrote my comment too!
That was so cute! Go see what I wrote! I really didn't
know that it was about me! You fooled me! Thanks so much
to you and Irish! I had to make a pumpkin bread cake with
buttercreme frosting because I didn't have a yellow cake
mix! It came out all lopsided so I hope it tastes better
than it looks! Everyone gets a piece!

Mmmm! Happy birthday! I actually have bananas I need to make banana bread out of. Pumpking bread would be yummy too. Alas I have not made many things from scratch lately, although I do have a yummy soup simmering on the stove.
I have not HAD a particular ingredient before so I've had to replace with something else before.

Hi mommyboo! Thanks for the pm! It isn't even a scratch
cake, just a mix! Not a good baker! I love banana bread
and banana cake! I'm a much better scratch cook! I never
made soup though, and I'll bet yours is really yummy!
Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to you!!!!!
I hope you liked my song! Ha!ha!ha!I can't sing that to you live but just imagine you've heard me singing while reading this post. Happy Birthday my friend...from the bottom of my heart.... I wish you all the best!
And you are baking your own cake! How nice! I admire people who can bake so well. I've been baking cakes but can't do it perfectly. The only cake I could do perfectly is banana cake. (Poor me! hu!hu!hu!) I wish we're neighbors so I could learn from you. It's okay if you can't make the yellow cake with buttercreme frosting,(Hmmmm, my mouth is watering!) That pumpkin bread cake sounds interesting though. I've not tasted that kind of cake. But pumpkin I love... it's very nutritious so I wish I could taste that pumpkin cake too. Do eat a slice for me. Again...Happy Birthday my dear friend!

Happy Birthday Opal!!!!![](/Content/images/emotes/wub.gif)
Do You have someone to share it with? I hate it when I have to make my own cake. I know some people don't mind but if it's my Birthday, I want someone else to make it. Maybe that's why I don't get a cake. I might have to rethink that.
And yes, it seems lately that I can't seem to have all the ingredients whenever I make anything but especially if I'm baking. A few days ago I made choc. chip and walnut cookies and I didn't have eggs. I sent my hubby to the store. He says I always start something without checking to see if I have everything. He's right. I didn't use to be like that.
Well Sweetie, enjoy your pumpkin bread cake. I would make you a yellow cake if I lived near you.xoxoxo

ok that I have to make my own birthday cake, I guess it
is anyway! My friends have all been calling me so that's
nice at least! And I have my mylot friends to be with too!

I'm sure it's happened to me, and I've probably run out to the store real quick to get it, or just not made what I wanted to make. A month or so ago, my son went to make cupcakes and after he'd mixed in a few ingredients he realized we were out of eggs. I think the batter is still in the fridge...
HEY!!! Happy Birthday!!!

I wish it would happen to me LOL I love cake...I mean LOVE cake and I can only have a small slice once in a great while b/c I'm diabetic. I wish I knew of a way to make one and freeze it or something and still have it taste fresh when I get ready to have some. Happy Birthday and I hope your cake turns out.

Hey, twoey, I learned a great trick with my daughter's wedding cake. They wrapped it with foil, then a layer or two of plastic wrap, another layer of foil. The lady told me to do that a couple more times after I got it home. I put more foil and more saran wrap and more foil, and more saran wrap, and one more layer of foil, then stuck it in my freezer. I told the kids several times to get it and take it home. It sat in my freezer for 3 years. One day, I decided to clean the freezer. I took the cake out, unwrapped it, and unwrapped, and unwrapped it. Just our of curiosity, I got a knife and cut it. The cake was just as good as it was the day it was baked! I was pleasantly surprised. I figured if the kids hadn't taken it after 3 years, they weren't going to, so we ate it.

Happy birthday to you then my friend, I am sorry I am a great cake fan but I don't bake them, I just hang around the cake house if I wanted to eat a piece of cake and choose what I wanted, lol. although, I cook food for my self, I have the same, well almost the same story you have, I was thinking of eating something then I ended cooking different thing like a right cake for wrong ingredients.

Happy Birthday, Opal! I hope you had a wonderful day.
I cannot tell you how many times I started to make something, and then realized I didn't have everything I needed to make it. I look through the cabinet and fridge to see what I can replace the missing ingredient with. It usually doesn't turn out quite the same as what I had intended, but it usually turns out to be pretty darn good. Sad thing is, then next time I decide to make THAT thing, I don't even remember how I made it.*LOL*

Hi bo! Thanks so much for all the cute kitty comments! I
just love them all! I only needed a yellow cake mix and I
thought I had one, but I didn't so I had to use the pumpkin
bread and I put it into cake pans which didn't exactly
come out too great. They look funny and lopsided! I used
buttercreme frosting from a can! I'm not so good at baking,
only cooking from scratch! I'm a great cook, but not so
good baker! Haven't tasted the cake yet, but everyone here
gets a piece!
