An Economic Fact (scary one)

One of my assistants and I were talking about money and gas prices. She told the following story and I did a little research on my own to check some facts and crunch some numbers.
Her property is less than one acre. She has a run of the mill lawnmower. It takes one gallon of gas, plus wear and tear to mow her lawn. According to her, this costs $4. You work for me, making $10.84 before taxes. The first half an hour of every shift she work pays to mow her lawn. She mows the lawn an average of 56 times per year, skipping the winter months. That’s $224 a year. That’s well over a week's pay at the 18 hours a week that she works.
Now, that's insane! We really are in an economic downturn.

I totally agree. Who says we need all this new fangled stuff? Low tech is better for the planet anyhow.
