Should marijuana be legalized?

Before all of you potheads answer yes, think about it from a political point of view. Does the government make more money if pot is illegal, or, if regulated properly, could they benefit from legalizing marijuana? I am sure that fines, bail money or whatever brings in a lot of money to the local governments, and I am personally convinced that whatever they aquire in a drug raid gets sold on the streets, but of they tax it and regulate it as they do tobacco, could they make more? i know a ton of people that smoke marijuana, and would do so if it was regulated and legalized, so why don't they? I think it is safer than cigarettes and kills less people by a long shot. What are your thoughts on this and do you think a revolution could be started?
