People see more bad than good--- its all about the title

During my time in writing class, my teacher would always say, "Its all about the title, it is the first thing readers will look at and it will depend on how striking it is for you to get their attention." I posted two similar topics with clashing titles. 1. Filipino Sucks 2. Under estimated Filipinos Rise People on my first post was so mad at me, because of the title I put. If I were them I would be mad at first too. But once I go through the body of the post I then understand the point the poster wanted to send out. My second post which was a more positive side of Filipinos, talk about the things I love about the Filipinos and their country. WHich one had the most post? The first one ofcourse. Its more striking, offensive and demeaning, getting the attention of people who are involved, also those of other nationalities. Why is it we tend to react on more negative stuff than positive ones? I am kind of shocked that people took notice more on the negative title than the point of view I wanted to send out. Yes, I get it, the title was and is insulting, don't they think I was insulted too? Howcome they'd rather comment on the negative title than the positive one? If people wanted me to uplife the morale of the subject of the topic, wouldn't they be responding to the positive title? (This is just my point of you, feel free to share yours.)

That's kind of interesting and a good observation at that. Well, it could just be coincidence that more people may be interesting in joining that discussion. Some will definitely have a say to that (even I would jump in) and the discussion will get pretty rowdy with such title. But some people will join in not just because of the title but the discussion itself. That would definitely attract a lot of attention and there will be lots of opinions and possibly clashes within the discussion. For me though, what I have observed in positive discussions is that, it's really a calm discussion without much to debate on. There isn't much interaction in positive discussions as the ideas are pretty much what they are and opinions are quite possibly, all positive as well.

Yes you should see the other discussion. People have been asking me questions like "How can you say that?" " Why did you put that title." And ofcourse I explain to them that this is just one of the thing I hear about Filipinos everyday, as if they can't believe that people say worst things about us. A lot of clashing over there but I try to explain to them that the discussion is not for the pro filipinos vs anti filipinos, but it is for all filipinos. Telling them that their actions, good or bad, affect the names of fellow Filipinos.

It saddens me more that they noticed the title but not the message. I don;t want to think of them as closed minded, but maybe they were shocked like how I was when I heard those comments for the first time.

Yeah, I reviewed the other discussion. I'd have to agree with most of the responders. The title is just too catchy. I can even see that you've been explaining quite a lot about the title. That's true what you said there and it's sad that some came from fellow Filipinos. Take care.

I believe that some people will write about things they feel passionate about and that their mood also helps to determine if they will answer the positive discussion or the negative one.

Yes, that is true. I am passionate about my culture, and it shocks me that because of my post, I was thought to be an anti Filipino. Sigh.
