What Does It Mean????

Ok so this is hands-down my favourite book ever! Holden caulfield should be enshrined as one of the best characters ever written!
But i've read the book like a million times and i still don't quite get what exactly the phrase 'Catcher in the Rye' means. Can somebody please help explain it to me in simple terms :p

It was the only thing Holden could imagine doing with his life. A person in a field of Rye, catching children before they fell off the edge of the field.
You can make a lot of associations of what that could mean.
Molded Rye supports the spores that could be turned into a strong psychedelic, perhaps he was speaking of saving kids from a bad trip. Just one that I thought of just now.
