I used to work with a guy that said he was color blind, he said that everything he see is a grayish looking color. The only color that he could identify were black and white. His wife would lay his clothes out for him to wear. She would match the colors for him. Do you know anyone that is color blind?

As I know, man can be born color blind more easier than woman. I cannot imagine that we can only see black and white in the world.

Many people think anyone labeled as "colorblind" only sees black and white - like watching a black and white movie or television. This is a big misconception and not true. It is extremely rare to be totally color blind (monochromasy - complete absence of any color sensation). There are many different types and degrees of colorblindness - more correctly called color vision deficiencies. This is a quote from a website called the Colorblind Website. It is very interesting to read all about it and to see the tests that they give. So I guess I eat my words. It is possible, but very rare, to only see black and white. It has to do with the "rods and cones" in your eyes. I will go get the website link and add it in as well.

My friend used to have a boyfriend who was colourblind. She bought him a tshirt and we all told him it was green, which is what he saw it as, but it was actually pink!! hehe he wasn't happy when his brother told him the truth but we all thought it was pretty funny!!! xxx

I know a few folks that are either fully are partially color blind. My husband is partially color blink. He has problems with reds and blues, so something that looks dark purple to me will look blue to him.

I did meet a guy once who was totally colour blind. We were standing on a river bank and he was taking about a particular boat which was moored there and he refered to it as "that grey boat" I could see that the boat in fact was painted blue, so I realised that he must have been totally colour blind.

I know many that are partially color blind. They can differentiate between the main colors, but have trouble with blues and greens and that sort of thing. It's much more common in men than women. I remember when my brother was joining the Marine Corps he couldn't get into aviation because of being partially color blind.

My dad is color blind. He can't even tell the different colors on a stop light, he goes by the position of the light. I don't think it every really had a big impact on us in any way growing up. He didn't do the clothes shopping although if you look at the pictures of us as little kids you might think that he did. I guess it is just one of those things I really don't even remember until I see a discussion like this.

That is an unusual form of colorblindness, at least as I understand the disorder. I babysat or provided child care for, a young man who was color blind. His was the most typical, red/green issue. Things that were red or green mostly looked a yellow or sepia color. Again, that is the most common form of the malfunction. I also knew a young man when I was in college who was red/green affected. He drove, but said it really messed him up when the traffic lights were placed horizontally rather than vertically. The other type of colorblindness that my optometrist tests for is the less common blue yellow form. In that case it is impossible to see the difference between the blue and yellow. I guess your friend either was exaggerating, or he had both kinds of color blindness. There are visuals for testing. I have even found them online. I may go research and get back to you. I also may eat my words.

I have a friend who is colour blind. He swaps green and blue. He find it difficult to distinguish between the two but he is ok with the rest of the colours.
