We are on out way out the door early this morning to go help out our Church for the Trash and Treasure sale and Chinese Auction!
I am hoping that we have a great turn out! Raise lots of money for the church! Also hoping for some great weather! Money's raised will help the church with the Winter heating bills!
Have out helped out at your church Lately? Have you ever been to a Chinese auction!

That sounds like a lot of fun. No, I've never been to a Chinese auction. We have a Harvest festival coming up that I could help out with at our church, although it is free so we aren't raising any money. But I tithe. I know I'm weird, but I always feel so good when I get to give my tithe check. I don't know why, lol.

Oh I know. We have a fairly small group in our church, so every bit of money we get goes back into the church's bills, and people who need it in our community. It's pretty much why my dad doesn't make much at all as the pastor. But of course that is not why he became a pastor, lol. He doesn't have health insurance either, but I don't think he'd change churches for anything. It's so nice having a close knit congregation. There have been times they didn't know how they would pay bills, but God has always come through.

A Chinese Auction is not like a normal Auction. What they do is: Place many Items on tables that are going to be giving away. In front of each of the items is a little baskets. Everyone buys tickets and write their names and phone numbers on them, then they put the tickets into the little baskets of the items that they would like to win. So it is more like a drawing!

That is interesting, I never heard of that before..I know about the auctions where you make bids and then I know a lot about drawings, but when we "buy tickets" for a drawing, call that "a raffle".

Oh I wish I lived near you I love trash and treasure markets, I have found some real treasures at places like this, it is wonderful going through all the unwanted stuff, I just wish I could get out of bed early enough to go to them,...

The whole event was a huge success! A little over $2,000.00 was raised in just 2 days! The money will help with the Winter utilities! I wish that you could have been there also!

I know absolutely nothing about a Chinese auction. Would love to have you share some information about this day at the church. I admire you for taking the time to work at the auction to benefit the church. Hope you have good weather and it's a very profitable day.

I went to Catholic school and we had them all the time, but we called them penny sales. We would buy a sheet full of tickets (100 of them for $1.00, hence 'penny sale') and put however many tickets into the prize we wanted the most, or spread them out over many items. I believe that's what a Chinese auction is too, right?
I'm going back 40 years or so to when we had ours, but I remember they were so much fun. We had no money, but even with a single $1.00 most of us were able to win something and we were ecstatic, no matter what it was.
I've never heard of any since my experience with them as a child, and I would love to find something like that now. I would most definitely support a church group or whatever that was having one.

I am answering from e-mail, so you may have already had this question: What is a Chinese auction? I may have helped with one, but if I did it had another name. I help out when I can at the church. We do not do those types of fundraisers, though. There is a community group called Trash to Treasures who makes gifts for the needy out of donated free materials.

My mom donated a piece of land to the church to build a new church which is costing RM4 million which will take off the ground early next year. We have been trying to raise for this purpose and so far the donations received is far below the targetted amount. Your idea of doing sales for fund raising is good idea and getting someone to donate is much sweeter. I have never been to chinese autions which sounds interesting.

Regular auction, there is a fast talking auctioneer. That try's to raise the money. The highest bidder gets the item and pay the amount that he ended up biding!
So you can win a nice item at a Chinese auction and not pay a lot!
