Does anyone know how to bake home made cake?

I love baking cakes but I mostly used cake mixed from the box, I want to try something else aside from following instructions from the box but baking yourself a cake from a scratch.

You can go on line anywhere and type in -homemade cakes recipies and you will get many ideas. although it may be a good cake ii feel it is a lot of work , gathering all the ingredients and such, so I vote for the box type.
