Are you one of the many Filipinos who went to cemetery every All Souls Day?
Cleaning the tomb of loved ones and do some bonding moment with some of your friends and relatives that you've seen there who's also cleaning tombs of their loved ones..
After you finish cleaning and still want to stay longer, what you mostly do to spend your day in cemetery?
Are you going there alone or you are usually with your family?
Thank you for sharing..

DO WE ALWAYS "GO" TO CEMETERIES DURING ALL SOULS DAY?
In my case, Seldomly cause my relatives are in the province... but If I have the chance I instead visit cemeteries of friends' relatives...

I think it's every filipino family's tradition. It's more of a reunion for the family members to spend some quality time together.

I've actually never been to cemetery in my whole life. I only see what it looks like on tv and in the movies. My mom doesn't make me go even during all souls day because she said that it might bring us bad luck. So when my classmates talk about what they did during all souls day I can't really relate...

Yes of course. We value the our love ones, but since we are so busy working, having to visit their tomb every all souls day is what we could do best for them. Their memories still live in our hearts and they are part of who we are and what we are capable of becoming. We light up candles and offer them prayers. We stayed until the morning in the cemetery in the tombs of our love ones.

When I was younger, we would see to it that we go to the cemetery together and spend Nov. 1 and 2 in there. We usually have food and we would chitchat with my family friends.

The last time I went to the cemetery I really don't recall. What I do know is that nothing could have gone worse. The cemetery was too crowded ( I know its supposed to be crowded but it was REAllY crowded!). You took one step and you'd bump into another person. It was raining so it was kinda muddy. They were doing some kind of renovation so it was not only muddy but there were big rocks around like they dug all around the place. And just when we are about to go home, the drizzle turned into a downpour, we had no umbrella, got soaked WET. I was still wet when we got home.
It really wasn't a good place and time to visit the dearly departed. The family really did want a better place, have them moved but there is no resources for that. So sad. I knew our dearly departed would understand but we all wish the circumstances were different.
So what I usually do now is light a candle at home and pray. Minus the hassle of all that. Much more solemn I think. I knew they would understand why I couldn't come. I just tell them not to come and visit me instead.

Yup! But my family and I don't really go on All Saints' or All Souls' days. We go the night before All Saints' Day because there are too many people at the cemetery on All Saint's and All Souls' Days. We usually clean the graves of my relatives who have passed. Then we usually say a few prayers and then we share stories and eat lots of food.
