Simple question: Do you have smokers?

Hi all I do respect everyone's choice but I really hate those inconsiderate smokers. They like to smoke even there are people around, I always try to avoid them but you know sometimes you just cant easily. For example when you are eating in a restaurant and they just sit next to you! Who want to breathe in toxic smoke when having their meal? I always want to curse them from the bottom of my heart. Do you think it's alright and can accept such things? For smokers, do you usually do something like that? Please respect other people if you want others respect you.
Speak out now.

I actually find non-smokers to be ruder then smokers as a general rule. Actually, in a lot of cases it borders on harassment. Don't forget that smokers have rights too, and many of us hate the addiction as much as you do. I've always been considerate with my smoking, going away from people, if children/babies go by I blow away from them rather then just ignore that they are there, etc. Even in my own home I get the input from my friends, unless they are rude about it. Its my home, I have no problem with smoking outside or by a window or whatever, but demanding that someone not smoke in their own home?
Granted some smokers are rude, but who wouldn't be when non-smokers are harassing them no matter WHAT they do? Use common sense. When they're done taking away many of the smoker's rights, who do you think they are going to come after next?

Me I'm a smoker, but I'm not like other smokers who don't care even when there's people around, I'm making sure there's no people near me when I'm smoking especially young ones and pregnant women. Even I'm a smoker I still don't like the smell of smoke when someone's smoking near me. It makes me dizzy.

Well I dunno where you live but here in canada smoking is not allowed in public buildings. and we are not allowed to smoke within 5 meters of a businesses door. I agree with it even though I am a smoker and not because of the adults it is because of the kids that have to live with smokers. Adults have the right to choose to not be around a smoker but kids can't just up and leave their homes when their parents smoke.
In my opinion your an adult so get up and leave. Until there are laws put in place for your country you have no choice in the matter so you should do whatever it takes to stay away from smokers rather than complain about it.

Hi, of course kids are the most affected ones on second hand smoke. But do not neglect the effect of it on adults. And please do not think you can always avoid them even if we want to. What if your boss is having a meal with you and he smoke after eating? Do you think you will say, "Hey, do not smoke in front of me please"?

umm well since I live in canada. 1 I would not have my boss at my house and 2 smoking in a restaurant is illegal so what do you think would happen? there would be no smoking in front of a non-smoker.

I do smoke however i wait until after i leave a restaurant to smoke, Unless they have a smoking and non-smoking section. But if i was smoking around someone who didnt like it it would be more respectful if you'd ask them to set away a bit or even put it out i myself personally ask if its okay before i do it around people because thats just the respectful thing to do and if they say no id rather you not then thats okay i will walk off if i really want to smoke or i'll wait until they arent around to do it. Its really all about respecting others around you and not jsut thinking about yourself.

i can't tolerate these smoker guys not only they kill themselves but also them pose serious threat to the people standing near by. i have few friends of mine how smoke and i always make sure to be no where near them when they smoke. in our country INDIA a law has been passed recently which makes smoking at public places a punishable offense and this has received a warm response from the non-smokers. so i hope it would be some relief now for the non-smokers.

My husband do smoke, not like as you said. When he is having that, he won't allow any one to be near by. You have to choose good restaurents where smoking is not allowed. I don't know such a restaurent accepts smokers to smoke inside their hotel.
Finally Don't hate smokers. All the smokers are of not the same. That is just a bad habbit. And my husband tries to give up. When you are facing problem with smokers, request them to not smoke in front of you polietly. They will listen to your words.

Hi adihindu.
May be the topic is a bit misleading, but what I mean are those inconsiderate smokers. I respect them to have their habit but do not force other people to be affected by them. And not every part of the world is as good as your place to have banned smoking indoor and the situation varies from time to time, place to place.

Yeah I have one friend who smokes A LOT and does it when people are around which sometimes its embarassing like when they do it infront of your parents. But at least they dont smoke inside our house or car since I know my parents would get pissed off by that if they did.

hi ajaxian I do dislike having a smoker puff smoke around me as i am allergic to the smoke, it makes me really ill. At least here in Califoria smoking is no longer allowed in restaurants and cafes so we can eat without breathing smoke fumes and getting nauseated from it. If people want to smoke fine, just dont smoke around me please. thank you.

I am not sure where you are from or if you are in the US, but most states now have the law banning smoking in public buildings, restaurants and any type of establishment that allows any one under the age of 18. In my town in KY they attempted to ban public smoking PERIOD....even in bars. That did not go over well and the business owners were upset because they lost a lot of business...I for one never went back to Fazolis after they banned it even before the "officials" got involved....other restaurants had seperate ventilated rooms for smokers....Second class citizens I believe should be the term.
There is a lot of animosity between what I consider to be the smokers and the Nons. As a member of the smokers I can tell you generally speaking the smokers are considerate, but just like anyone else who is made to feel like less of a person who chooses to smoke frustration sets in. More and more you see other people and the government attempting to control the mass public. Even if I was not a smoker I would say a resounding no to any of it. Leave it up to the establishment owners to decide whether or not they support a smoking limitaiton and/or ban. Not the government or the people as a whole. Of course on public transit and other public buildings should be smoke free....but outside is a little ridiculous.
After all, if I am standing beside someone who is offending me in any way I just simply exercise my right as a citizen who can make up my own mind and walk away.
Sorry I just get a little perturbed when the word Hate and the generalization of a group is determined by one person who happens to be an inconsiderate smoker. I assure you the majority respect others for the simple fact smokers receive little respect because of the revenue we are helping flow through our economy.
Have a great day.

Hi taface thanks for your response. I understand why you are not happy with this topic if you are a good smoker and considerate person. Non-smokers may simply label you as 'bad guy' if they know you are a smoker, and I know this is not fair for you. Sadly but frank, this is how stereotypes function in the society. And in human nature, bad things are always more memorable than good things. Anyway, I hope you can quit smoking if you want to get healthier and, thanks for being a considerate smoker to make the world a better place.

I respect the smoker as a person but I don't like the act of smoking itself! I suffer from asthma and I dislike inconsiderate smokers on this basis as I'm constantly indulging in passive smoking! I guess the saying is though, we cannot control the world, only our little space! So, if I'm not that keen on something, particularly a situation in relation to smoking then, I will just move somewhere else. I would rather do this than face potential conflict with the smoker in question. That's a tough one though when you are in a restaurant and a smoker comes and sits down so close to you. I'm not going to answer that one as I have never been in that situation. I guess you have to make an assessment at the time and follow your heart. Andrew

I am a smoker but I respect the rights of others. If there's no smoking allowed, then I don't smoke. It makes me crazy to see how disrespectful other smokers can be. It gives all smokers a bad another bad rap, like we don't already have enough with the main one being, polluting the lungs of others with second hand smoke.

That just shows their disrespect toward others. There's a world full of people out there that only care about themselves and to heck with everyone else. I just don't happen to be one of those people.

I am smoker myself and start to smoke only because many of my friends were smoking around me. Now we have laws in ireland about smoking. We are not aloud to smoke in any public places is it a shop, restaurant, bar or something else. We are not aloud to smoke in company cars or ever in your own car if you have kids younger than 5 y/o. I think it's help but don't do very much anyways

I am a smoker, but I try and be considerate of others, as they should be to us, how about cell phone users, cell phone users in cars, texting messages in cars, etc!

Ouch! My hubby and I are both smokers. However, we do respect other people who are not smokers. We don't just smoke anywhere when we feel like smoking. We stay in places where people won't get annoyed by the smoke. When I'm out of the house by myself, I don't smoke. I wait till I get home. That's why I know it is annoying if someone else's smoke goes to me. We also don't smoke when my mom visits our home. We feel that we are disrespecting her if we smoke in front of her. We never want to offend anyone by our smoking.

I hate smokers. At work i cant avoid it for i am surrounded by smokers, half of my co workers smoke like a muffler of a car. even there is a big sign of no smoking area,They still smoke for it is already in there system, not one can change it except them selves. I thank God that nobody smoke at home for i can breath fresh air away from work. Have a nice day.

this is an interesting one..
you know what i started a discussion regarding smoking few days ago..it's about smokers trying to quit..and i had a lot of responses from smokers too.
seriously speaking i am a smoker.."yes" but i don't smoke on public, i mean smoking in front of the other person not unless he/she is a smoker like i am. for sure that he/she wouldn't mind inhaling what i just exhaled.
smoking right in front of a non-smoker is a very bad habit indeed..it's like no respect at all..

Me too. I don't like smokers. The smoke makes me feel dizzy. Also, after they smoke, when you get close to them you can easily smell their cloth stink with smoke. Luckily I don't have much smoker friends around. Well, actually my late father was a smoke. He managed to stop smoking due to health problem during my childhood time. He had been living a helthier life after that until a sudden heart attack few years back. So I suggest to those who smoke, stop smoking if possible to lead a healthier life.
