I dont kiss butt I just seem to like my bosses :) I dislike slackers quite a bit and usually the higher totum pole people are not slackers. Yet I know people think i suck up and kiss butt. I dont think it's fare to assume this about a person, besides is it a crime to want to advance in this world? I can be nice to everyone at the office but as soon as I say good morning to my boss or help with papers he/she has dropped I am a kissass. I would like your opinion, is it better to be liked by the majority or by the powerful? Can you ever balance both? Which group do you prefer to mingle with?

A balance of both I would think is a good combination. If you are seen to be sucking up to the bosses too much then it will be evident that the remainder of the workforce will resent you,as no one loves a creep! But it is a good thing to carry out your tasks well,to be diligent about your work and to do it to the very best of your abilities, there is no wrong in that.Yes be pleasant to everyone in the office,be polite and pleasant to those who are in authority, getting the balance right can be difficult.

Hi, amberjean3. Welcome to myLot.
I think it is best to find that delicate balance between getting along with the majority or the powerful..... never alienating yourself from either one. Of course it is not wrong to want to advance in this world? Just be yourself as you are doing it. Never give up who you are.

Welcome my Brother.
I think that you should find this balance because it's very good for you
and you try not to be someone else
and don't forget who you are is never a matter of success

My question is: Why worry about what they have to say. They are obviously jealous for some reason. I laugh and talk with my boss everyday. I actually sit by her desk, so she sees everything I do. Just because you have the courtesy and manners to speak does not mean you are a brown nose. It just means you were raised right. This goes on everywhere. I have a couple of brown noses where I work. If the word brown nose was in the dictionary, there pictures would be right there. I have had comments made about me. What I do is, I hold my head up high and ignore them. Sometimes, silence is the best payback. When you don't answer ignorant people, this gets to them even more. They are probably tring to get a rise out of you. Now if you didn't speak or asked if someone needed help, they would still talk about you saying you think you are better than everyone. So either way, people will talk. So just shake those haters off.
Happy mylotting!!!
