What is your biggest challenge at Mylot?

Mine is to try to word discussions so as many people as possible would or could answer. Since I live in the country and many people live in the city, who are my friends, I need to find a city equivalent. My gatherer lifestyle is very much country, so trying to work that into more generic topics is hard. Even a lot of country people only gather berries or only mushrooms, most people only gather one thing. I tend to like crafts that are old time or not done by very many people. So writing craft topics that can involve more people is a challenge. I used to do religious discussions, but too many people can't discuss that topic without condemning someone who is different, so I seldom venture into that territory, but once in awhile I try to find a safe haven here and a less touching off people topic to try. At first, I seldom started discussions. Fairly content to just answer others. Especially since many of my beginning topics had no responses. Many still have no responses. So what is or are your biggest challenge or challenges at Mylot and why?

I think early discussions don't get responded to, because you have fewer friends and so a smaller pool of people that will look at your discussions. Now, we know I start discussions about my cats - well, more I tell stories about them and if I remember, I'll ask a question. I also post interesting science stuff I've found, or history - those being 2 topics I'm really interested in. I do know I respond to lots more than I ever post - and boy was I surprised to find out how many I've started over the year or so I've been on here!

That's very true. When you don't have a lot of friends at first, it's very difficult. Cats and history are neat topics. Thanks and take care.

About a month ago I set myself a difficult My Lot challenge. I wanted to attempt to earn more than one dollar in a single day. I experimented trying to do as many posts as possible in one day. I managed to get 90 something cents so I did just a few more posts and then I reached my target. It wasn't about earning money but about extending myself to something really challenging. I respond to discussions about abortion and religion, two very touchy subjects. I have my own opinions but I respect other people's choices. That fact that all people are different delights me. I respect all cultures and religions. When I log on to My Lot I see if there are any new discussions on travel, my favorite topic. If there are I think goody and respond to any relevant to me. If there are not any new discussions about traveling I look for new discussions about my lot, enjoy life and people. Most days I am happy to respond to other's discussions. I feel disappointed when I begin a discussion and it doesn't get any responses. I just wish I could delete my discussions that I haven't had a single response for but that isn't possible. My biggest challenge is starting appealing discussions. I am grateful to a few friends on My Lot that will often respond to my discussions.

I try, but since I've only traveled to Canada, France, and Alaska as well as a few US States, it's hard for me to answer very many traveling questions. I haven't had much money to do traveling with this year at all. We have traveled in NY and VT and that is it this year and only once to VT ( my Tinker's Barn discussion). Right now with the cost of everything, it's hard for Americans to travel. Take care.

Suppose my biggest challenge is trying to think of a discussion that will bring in many responses. This only happened once since I've been a member. I won't touch religious or political discussions since I feel they aren't safe. We all have a different opinion. Am not into debating so I avoid those discussions. This morning my brain is working at a slower pace. Some days are just like this and it takes awhile, after coffee, to get into the swing of things. Rarely do I start a discussion early in the morning as a result.

Our kids are all different religions. I have no problem with it whatsoever. One thing I never ever do is judge someone by their religion. I do tend to stay away from those discussions with or without coffee....lol

Well, you did mention something about your religion once. I thought you were pretty brave. Just saying what religion you practice can be dangerous here. Too many people thinking that some of us are going the h-e-double hockey sticks on here. Very true that we have different opinions on religion and politics. Get your coffee and rejoin us when you can. Take care.

I think it's neat that you have all different religions in your family. I don't want to debate. I just think it would be fun sometimes to discuss things, but I tried under religion and people got carried away. I did way better under Paganism. Strangely enough. Even Christianity can cause trouble. Oh well. Take care

I like hearing about people who live different lives than I do. That's one reason I really like the experience of myLot. I've never lived in "the country" per se, but I grew up in a small town. It's fun to hear about what others are thinking about and doing. I like your discussions, writersedge, because they are so varied. I can usually learn something by reading myLot discussions. I think religion and politics are 2 tough discussions to start. Sometimes, my politics shine through a response here and there but it can get "touchy," that's for sure. My biggest challenge on myLot is actually coming up with topics to start discussions on. I usually don't get many responses on the discussions I do start, so I know my topics are not "good" ones for myLot's population. If I get 20 replies, I'm happy.

I try to answer as many of my friends' discussions as possible, but I'm computer challendged as far as some of the topics go. I try a variety of topics because I like variety and when I write about one topic exclusively, no one answers after awhile. When people stop answering from one category, I leave it alone for awhile or try a different approach. Some topics, I've happy if I get three or four people. There are about 4 friends, including you, that answer consistantly. Most people I hear from once. Then I never hear from them again. They ask to be my friends, but that is so I will write on their topics, not on mine, I guess or maybe I only hit something of interest to them once. Hard to tell. Thanks for your response and take care. Yes, I learn something new too, just about every discussion that I start or answer. Take care.

Similar to you. To start a discussion that gets real answers. And also phrasing sentences. I think it is quite difficult to know the right words that catch peoples attention.

Yes, I try to write something that will make people wonder enough to read and respond. But if I'm too different from them, they can't figure out what to write. So I try to write a lot of questions some country and some city. Thanks and take care.

Type in Cannonball in the search. Try that. I have given addresses of discussions here before and they didn't come up for anyone. But the person's profile did and they could find it by profile. If you really can't find it after that, I will try with page address again.

I guess the biggest challenge for you would be the language. That's often a problem for people with English as their second, third, etc. language. Some people like Cannonball use a translater program. Maybe Cannonball could help with that. Cannonball ( I think, I don't think it's Cottonball) had a discussion about, "What translator do you use?" That discussion might help you. I don't even try to get people to join anymore. I've had no luck with that at all. Since you have a job, I wouldn't worry about how much you earn here. It was a long time before I had my first payout. It's just supposed to be something to encourage us, not a second income. I think you were trying to say that you don't get much sleep. You need sleep and I hope you get some. Thank you very much for responding. I hope something I wrote, helped. Take care.

I think I have to work hard to make sure people feel respected when I respond to them or comment on their responses. This is a great place to be. I am pretty set in my own ways and beliefs, but that does not mean I do not respect others. All discussions seem to get better response when you have been here awhile and if you have a wide circle of friends. BTW, we just went to the park and gathered pecans. Did not realize our parks here had them.

They did not see me to tell me not to pick them up. We do like to leave some for the squirrels. I make lots of quick breads and will put pecans in them. From what I am reading, these are northern pecans. I am going to a Chestnut Roast in Missouri next weekend and they also give out infor about pecans and black walnuts (which we also have everywhere in town.)

I think my biggest challenge is to reach the monthly payout. Though posting now is easier than before, I still have not yet reached the MONTHLY payout. Instead, I reached it in one a half month. I'm very happy with it but it would be great if I reached the payout on a monthly basis.

That takes some time to learn how to do. It also takes some friends, too. It was a long time before I made payout on a monthly basis. If you're at 1 1/2 months, you're about where I was 6 months ago. You're almost there. Just do a little more and you'll have it. Thanks and take care.

I've only had two discussions in the top. Since I've been here for 1 1/3 years, that's not much, but I did hit it. I hope it does happen for you, but be careful what you wish for. One of those discussions was boring and the other one, I had some arguers in there. At least they weren't fighters. Take care

My biggest challenge is getting the time to be here! Don't worry about your discussions... I have a whole file of these thought-provoking topics from you that I'll do my best to respond to. Keep it up!

My biggest challenge is to make payout each month. At this moment, I'm not even half way there. But I guess paraphrasing discussion is a problem for me too. But I look at that from a different perspective. Having an international community here at myLot, you have to phrase your words so that everyone could understand. Difference in the use of words. Spelling is also another problem with the "s" and "z" like realise or realize, but that's minor. I guess, we try our best to be understood.

If I had a decent number of hours at a job, I would have a rough time making payout too. Spelling is a challenge, but more so for other cultures than English ones. I choose words and then think what that might be interpret as. I wrote side desk instead of stool, because who knows what the interpreting programs are going to say? Thanks and take care.

Could you explain that please? I don't understand. You're new to Mylot, welcome aboard. Please try to write at least 4 sentences when you respond. What any one are you talking about? What do you mean by contenders?

Are you kidding? Why do you think that you should find a city equivalent? To my point, this is unnecessry.I come from country too,but I seldom think it is the obtense to comumunicate with others. And,I think your difficulty doesn't look as you think. You could see lots of people response your this discussion, don't you?
@writersedge (22563)

No, I'm not kidding. So how does a city person answer a question about a septic tank? A hand dug well? Milking cows? Feeding pigs? Gathering wild food from 10 acres? climbing a tree and picking apples? gathering maple sap and making maple syrup? Especially when they haven't done any of those things? This discussion is generic. It is neither city nor country, this is a mylot question. You can do Mylot anywhere. Most people on Mylot can answer most mylot questions. You've got a 3 next to your name. You would do better here at Mylot if you would word things more tactfully or find some friends that like to take on advesarial tones (spelling? I don't know) like you do. Look at the number next to my name. Look at the numbers of the people above and read. You can learn things from people in the thousands. Take care
