Do you haggle?

When you shop, do you haggle? Or do you just pay whatever is on the price tag? When I go to stores or shops that allow buyers to haggle, I try my best to buy some stuffs at the least possible price. I haggle my way out to be able to buy the things I want or need without having to pay much. Of course if the price is really fixed, then so be it. I know of some people who do not haggle even if customers are allowed to haggle. They pay whatever is on the price tag. With prices increasing, we should know how to haggle. We should develop the "art" of haggling...

Hi dolce, My Mother is very good about it..LOL! She will not stop really until the seller will give discount and give it to her at a lower price..I got that attitude, I will try to negotiate once I know that they are adding more peso in their prices because they know people will always haggle! LOL! but, in the mall, i wish it's possible too...LOL!

Hi che! I think I also got it from my parents... But in the family, the one with the best haggling power is my paternal grandmother!

I am good at it. I would first look at the price and start to get a good bargain for the goods. I will start to bargain from a starting point of 50% down and see the reaction from the sellers face. If he look shock I will ask for 40% less and in the meantime confuse his mind and try to move about the stall to give him chance to decide to give in to my price. In a split seconds he will come up with a nod and agree on my price bargain then I will just grab it and go.

Along with learning the "art" (?) of haggling, one should also know what the item is worth, how much was paid for it, what the shopkeepers overheads are and so on. The shopper needs to know when he is offering a ridiculously low price which is totally unacceptable and when he is being ripped off by the shopkeeper.

If stores allow me to haggle then I would. I have done it on occasion.

I could not haggle in mall stores because the prices are fixed. I have to wait for payday to get 50% discounts. But I do haggle in market stalls for the items I like to buy, specially if they are owned by Chinese, Bombay, or Maranao. Sometimes, it's so hard to haggle with Filipino owners. Some of them get irritated when people haggle. I agree with you, we should learn to haggle these hard days.

when the store or the seller allows me to haggle, then i do so; but, if it is in a department store, then, i just pay the marked price when i can afford it. i also believe that we should learn to haggle due to the rising prices of goods.

yes, with the rising prices of goods, there really is a need to haggle for our own good...

I am poor at haggling or say bargaining. Normally I pay the price whatever is asked for. My better half is very particular on this account, she does not buy anything without bargaining, so I do not go alone to buy any product. It is she who manages the bargaining game. Many times she comes out successfully because some people agree to reduce their profit when they find that the lady in front of them is not chaning her stance.

It is not my habit to haggle, unlike my parents, although they always tried to tell mo to ask for lower prices. I do look for much cheaper items, but I am not cut out to haggle (at least that's how I feel)

I try to but i'm not very good at it, besides most of the places I shop have a set price that is non negociable.

This discussion made me think of an old friend ,she was married to a gamekeeper and he had a habit of haggling /bartering in every shop or place that he ever bought anything, and she was very embarassed by his actions!here in the UK its not seen as a thing we are able to do in a normal shopping environment, the good are manufactured and price tagged and that is the price we pay,but I recently saw a television programme that was telling you ,you need to haggle!and he in fact managed to haggle the prices down on a few items too.Maybe it is linked to the economy, where the companies and firms are getting desperate to sell their wares so they are prepared to let haggling commence in order to sell!but many of the shops now have some superb offers on,there are some very good deals about. We went to buy hubby a rotavator a good time ago now,and I was quite determined that I was going to have a haggle lol and I did get something knocked off,but the item was pricey,it would not have been my choice to buy a rotavator in the forst instance lol but it was good to have the reduction, even if it was just a smallish one.

Hi! I am a loser when it comes to haggling.. I don't know how to haggle. I'm also shy to ask for discounts when buying so I just pay what ever is on the price tag. I think bargaining and haggling is a very good strategy when shopping. You can buy a lot even with a few cash on hand. Ciao!

Hi dolce! Oh, I love to haggle! It's so much fun! I don't really get to do that too often, but every chance I can I sure do try! You can't do that in a big department store because there is no one to haggle with, but in the smaller private stores, why not! When I see something that there is just one left and it is a store display, that's when I get started. It usually works to get a price down at least a little bit! I saw a perfume tray in one of these small privately owned stores and it was a display and the only one left. It had small scatches and a tiny nick in the corner. I really wanted it because I had broken the one that I had and knew I wouldn't find one very easily so I started to haggle. I got the owner down from $19.99 to $14.99! That was at least something! I just like to do it just to see if I can and when it does work I'm happy!

yeah most especially when im in places where i can do haggling such as greenhills and divisoria.. now that inflation rates of basic goods and commodities are increasing each week, we should know how to haggle.. but of course, if the price is fixed then we should know to respect the sellers..
