I don't like it when a book is made into a movie as some important parts of a book are deleted because they don't make for good box-office draw or due to lack of time. I often find the movie lacking an important part which offers the explanation on why a certain event had to happen. What movie adaptation of a book did you feel did the book justice? or was better than the book itself?

I'm trying to think if I've seen an adaptation that I've enjoyed more than the book, and I can't think of one. The adap of To Kill a Mockingbird was good, but I think it might be an exception. I hate the adap of That Was Then - this is Now by SE Hinton because they completely missed the point of the story and went for a happy happy hollywood ending - very annoying!!
However, when I was younger and wanting to transistion from teenage books to adult books, tended to read those that had been made into films as I thought the book must be good and in most cases I was right. So, I think adaps are good as they encourage people to then read the book and they then may move onto other books by the same author (as I did). Actually, I've just thought of one film that was better than the book - Jaws, although I enjoyed the book, I think the film gets rid of the superflous lovey stuff. I also really enjoy both the book and film of Jurassic Park and they are in my top ten lists for books and films. For me, JP the film is better in terms of excitement and as an adreneline rush, but the book is more of a slow burner, but still really good and hugely enjoyable. I generally try to keep the two seperate in my mind and don't really compare them but instead enjoy each one on their own merits.

Sometimes, one of my favorite books can turn out to be a horrible movie, which saddens me. Most of the time, it does remove the exciting parts and replaces it with a filler of a scene, but sometimes, it's quite good. Though most movies taken from books get shortened because of the limited amount of screening time, which is the sad part. (Wow, I use too many "which"es) Anyways, I like the original better, most of the time.

When my favorite books are adapted into film, I usually get mixed feelings. On one hand, I would get really excited, but then I also would also have this feeling of impending disappointment. To be honest, I'm the type who would actually point stuff out in the movie adaptation and say "that's not in the book!" Lately however, I have learned not to expect the movie adaptation to be completely faithful to the book, because when you think about it, it's not always practical for them. As of now, I still can't name a movie that's based on a book I've read that, in my opinion, gives justice to the book. There are however adaptations that I did like, but only for the movie itself and not as compared to the original story in the book.

sometimes, the adaptation is very bad. as you probably know, the writing is different with the movie. some thing is suitable to describe, but isn't suitable to adapt to movie. so the director need to do some changes, which is convenience to tell the audience the story. if you use the book eyes for the adaptation, you will feel bad. i think we must evaluate the movie with the movie eyes, and find the advantage of the adaptation. maybe the change is good for the book, maybe not. it is why the same book have many different movie adaptation. the director just want to change the book to the image for audience. they don't think other things.
pls appreciate the good movie, don't compare it with the book.they are two different things

A movie called "hannibal" I saw tears ago impresses me so much that it do represent the feeling of the original book. It's all because the actor for Hannibal the "cannibal".He is elegant, tastefull, sapiential and meanwhile bloody and sanguinary.I think that movie may be better than its original book.

Sometimes it can be a good thing. I personally LOVED the Notebook as a movie and as a book. I understand where you're coming from, though. So many movies change so many details from the book that it's hard to tell they are even the same, like Ella Enchanted, for example, or even the Harry Potter movies cut a lot out. It makes me nervous for the Twilight movies.

It is ok for me for a book to be translated into the big screen, as long as a) it is faithful to the original story of the book,or b) they have done something different that could spark my interest. Also, it is nice to actually see your favorite characters come to life, even if there are a lot of missing parts from the book.

Hi! hmm, usually, I just feel just curious in how they will adapt the book into movie, quite want to see the actors and actresses that they chose to portray the characters and also if it will be a good one. But like you, I don't want for my favorite book to be made into a movie, like you said, usually, there are scenes that I like and really want to see but not quite like they do it or it was deleted due to lack of time I guess, just like happening usually in most of my favorite books that made into film like Harry Potter. So far, I have only one film that I think did the book justice, though I still think that the book was much better in it, is A walk to remember. But mostly my favorite book that made into a movie, are not that good and quite still like and prefer the book than the movie.

definitely.
i remember the first time i heard that Jason bOurne was going to be filmed. i felt so much attachment with the movie and the character.
it is so much easier to watch a film that you've read before from a book. you know the place, you know the people,,and you're excited on how this is going to be interpreted filmwise.
some parts are not best shown but well you've got a moving representation of your favorite book and i think it's worth the shot.
good day to you bubbles. enjoy posting!

Actually you are right sometimes a movie from a book is ruined because they leave out so much but they almost have to leave some stuff out you would think because it'd just be the same. I watched a movie that was by the book "The Mist" by Stephen King and absolutely loved it. Stephen King movie's are always awesome no matter what they leave out because they are so detailed in description it's crazy.

It is disappoint for me when the book is made into a movie.Because of the skill and the time, the movie can't take me the feeling good enough as i got from the book.
I haven't found a movie better than the book.

i feel that most often the real essence of the story is lost. you kind of let your imagination run wild when you read. but when you see the movi some how its just not there. and 99% of the times the story is like broken down to the bear minimum.
i guess amovie will never be equal to the book. the magic has not been captured so far.

I usually get curious as to how they translate the written word to the big or small screen. Of course, imagination works 100 percent when we are reading so it is interesting to see how others (the production people, in this case) visualize the story. Of course, there are many limitations to translating books into movies and we have to accept them. Still, if the director has a wonderful story-telling technique, he can pull it off a bit without really destroying the essence of the book.

Yes, I do. I think it's always better to read the book first and hen watch the movie. Some novels are so rich in detail that you need the movie to make sense of things. The movie gives you something tangible enough. At the same time, the novel serves as a backbone for the movie. It has more details of course so it's better to read the book first before watching to movie.

in my innermost thoughts, i'd say i don't like movie adaptations. many spectacular books have such complex thoughts and imageries that a movie adaptation simplifies, or cuts out entirely, so that the great tone, atmosphere and color of the book is lost. but then i watch it, simply because i'd like to see how well or badly they translate the book. only books with the simplest plots (like twilight and similar books) must be made into movies, i think.

Among the ones i have seen i liked Odessa File, Bourne series,The Day of the Jackal and Da Vinci Code. They were all quite well made and i personally feel that it is not possible to compare the two as to which is better...because it depends on the directors perception of the subject..
I feel the above mentioned were all good adaptations of the original novels..
