My background is Jamaican and I must say, I love Jamaica, the island is very beautiful and the people are kind hearted but often times misunderstood and all around the world there has been a love/hate relationship for Jamaicans.
I now live in Beautiful Canada and have met people from all nationality and countries and though different we all share some common views. I love meeting new people and hearing about other countries since I am not financially able to travel all over and experiencing different food
Have you been to Jamaica or come in contact with any Jamaican and want to share your opinion?

Wats up? Mi ina mylot too! When last you go dung a yaad! yu hear bout the plane dem hijack wid de Canadians them pan it!
Hi I am jamaican too living outside of Jamaica and I think our island home is very very beautiful, the people are warm and loving and misunderstood and I think the misunderstanding comes from the fact that is most cases our island is reported negatively when a little thing goes wrong.
World let me share something you might not understand about a jamaican neighbour you have... we are a proud people and we are naturally very resourceful and dont like to depend too much on other so with that in mind we dont like to be controlled because we are also very informed!
The mistakes alot of people make with Jamaicans is that they think they are under-educated when in fact their knowledge based may be greater than the person who is looking down on them and as such the know how to get things done!
So word of advice to you WORLD when you see a Jamaican dont under estimate skills and abilities because our education system their is one of the best and we have national skills training for every jamaican!
Again if you want to be friends with a Jamaican dont let them feel controlled by you and be warm and friendly and you will open up a lifetime of friendship.
If you dont know how to do something reach for the closest Jamaican you can find and they will help you find a way.
Also be kind to my Jamaican people, they are kind and even though negative things happen down there, we are really a christian country.
If you want to start a conversation with a Jamaican you can talk about West Indies Cricket, Athletics at the last Olympics, Reggae music, the beautiful river and beaches, the blue mountain which is almost 7000 feet high, or the Digicel Rising Star competition for upcoming entertainers in the music industry, or just say JAMAICA-no problem man! Really what they are saying is that they are easy going people who doesnt make everything a problem or that they have problem solving abilities.
Just a little view in the mind of a Jamaican. Let me hear what you think.
P.S. We also chat the Jamaican Creole -Patois- Ask me I'll teach you!!!

Also the Jerk Pork, the Ackee and Salt fish,Rice and peas, the corn meal pudding and the sweet potato pudding, coconut cake we call drops and the Jamaican Patties from Juici Beef and so much, but the Jamaican food is to lust after-the next time u make friends with a jamaican tell them you want to eat jamaican-let them cook-you on your way to discovering our pearl- the Jamaican food!

my dad is jamaican and also i have been on holiday there when i was 14, i know nothing of this love/hate relationship for jamaicans.
most jamaicans i know i suppose have been bought up to fiercly stand up to what they believe in and i suppose that could come accross a little standoffish, but i cant talk for all jamaicans.
very interesting post though, i shall be watching it.
and yes i agree, i love the lush blue sea and more amazingly the stars. every inch of the sky in jamaica i saw stars, not one bit of sky was uncovered. i dont think i have ever seen that in the uk. the sky is so clear there.
is that because its a hot country or because we have too much pollution here in the uk?

I was in Jamaica for 3 years about 12 years ago. And I really loved the country and the people. The people are so friendly and the beaches are gorgeous! I wish I could make a visit some day again but I am waiting for a lottery win or something to get the money to do so! :-)
