Amitabh Bachchan in hospital

On his birthday yesterday, Amitabh Bachchan was admitted into the hospital after he felt abdominal pains. According to the article that I've linked to at the bottom of this topic he's alright and will be discharged in a few days, which is good news.
I actually didn't know that he was having health problems until I read about it somewhere online yesterday. He always seems to be so full of energy in his movies that I hadn't even thought of it. It just goes to show that what you see on the screen isn't always a representation of real life.
Did you guys know or had any indication that he had illness?

Yesterday he was in Kerala attending the Asianet Award Nite function and I heard the speech online!!!

Perhaps because of the age factor, I can not see with careful addition of several new films that he played, but I'm sure he'll stay healthy.

It has been months since he was admitted to the hospitals and you won't imagine the crowd outside the hospital was enormous. Yes, we all love him and had prayed for him too and probably that was the reason why he is okay and still acting in movies.
So, I was just curious, you are from US and still know about Mahatma Gandhi and Amitabh Bachchan. How?
