I would like to wish everyone a Happy Columbus Day. Many people are off from work, if there is a parade where you live are you planning on going to see it or will you catch it on TV? Enjoy the day.

Happy Columbus Day to you too Howard. Since Columbus Day fell on a Sunday this year my husband had the day off but will have to work as usual tomorrow. There are no parades here. Today is a special day for me also, I got a few gifts, had dinner made for me and even had a cake baked for me as today is my b-day but ssshhhhhh, don't tell anyone. I hope your weekend was great.

Awww thank you so much for the cake. It looks just as delicious as the German Chocolate one my son made. I remember when I was little and when anyone would ask me when my b-day was I would just say Columbus Day but not anymore, now I have to tell them the date since it is celebrated on the Monday closest to the 12th. LOL

Hey, stores around here have been selling off their Hallowe'en inventory at 50% off in September! Yesterday, I was at a store that had their stuff at 75% off...

Hey howard! How ya doing stranger! How are you feeling? I hope better by now! I hope you enjoy your Columbus Day! I plan on stopping by at Burlington Coat Factory to see if I can get a nice buy on a jacket! It's in walking distance, although quite a walk, but doable. I hope I can find exactly what I am looking for at a nice sale price! Don't know about any parades, not in my town anyway. It's more about shopping and sales. Tomorrow will be my last day out because on Tuesday I am having a dreaded day at the dentist. I'm having 4 and 1/4 teeth extracted while I am awake! Not a very smart move! I definitely should have opted for the knock out dentist, but I decided to go to my regular dentist because I like him. I don't think I will be saying that by Tuesday afternoon! He better be prepared for getting hit or kicked! I guess I should warn him before he starts! I can scream pretty loud too! He already knows that. The last time he took out 3 teeth and I was sure screaming then! Well enjoy your Columbus Day!

Oh I don't know how your doing it, 4 at a time, wow your a lot stronger than I am. I would have had to opt for the "knock out" one. Good luck and let me know how your doing.

I have never gotten work off for Columbus day. He wasn't so hot anyway. I think more of a space head. It's like he saved his job because when he got lost he found a different land Plus got slaves. I don't get mail that is cool. Your friend onlydia.

HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY TO YOU TOO!!! Hard to believe it's here again already!!! We used to have Columbus Day parades, but nowadays Columbus Day seems to be one of those fleeting Holidays. Most businesses here give employees the option of taking either Columbus Day or Veterans Day off but you don't get BOTH!!! I will be here tomorrow driving everybody crazy!!!

And a happy Columbus Day to you too. If there is a parade in our area, I am not aware of it. I'll probably spend the day being lazy. I do that so well. Enjoy your day also.

I will be working on Monday. Hope you enjoy the day. Most of this city doesn't celebrate the day; however, my husband has a day off to play on his computer.

This one slipped up on me, howard96h. Thanks for the reminder. Years and years ago I worked in the financial world and got more of these such holidays from work. Now they tend to pass me.

Thanks Howard. I have Mondays off anyway & my daughter has school so it is just like any other day for me. I actually don't like Columbus day at all and I don't understand why it is a holiday. The guy killed so so many indians. I am part Indian. The guy killed more indians than hitler killed jews!

If it weren't for the sales most folks probably wouldn't know there was a Columbus day. I missed it entirely until I got to this thread and that was obviously quite late. With all the America bashers attacking him in the last decade I think the holiday has gotten a bit lost. It's fascinating the damage he did to North America by landing on an Island in the east Indies. as for the disease he supposedly brought there have been several burial sites where evidence of that disease was found and they predate Columbus by over a century. What about the damage done by lief Ericson with his raiding parties setting up villages in Canada or the Conquistedors that killed or enslaved almost everyone they met. Without Cris Columbus it would have been a lot longer before mankind established the maps and knowledge of this planet that gives us todays way of life. Lief Ericson, the Conquistedors, Magellen, Amarigo Vespucci and a whole lot of other brave explorers risked and sometimes lost their lives getting us to where we are today. They deserve every bit of the respect we give to John Glenn, Jaque Cousteu and all the modern explorers we so revere. It's a shame some people hate their way of life so much that they have to disrespect the heroes of our past.
