Have you ever cut your hair super short? Have you ever cut your own hair?

This summer was really hot.
And, my hair was almost waist
length and felt like a veil in the summer heat.
So, one day, I took a pair of scissors and hacked it off,
really short. It looked really bad, at first.
But, then I got some great tips from a stylist friend about how
to thin it out and cut layers into it.
When I was done, my hair was super short,
up to my neck.
Amazingly, the hair cut turned out better than I could
have imagined, considering that I did it myself.
It looks really good after it's washed
and styled. Very chic!
Now it's so much easier to style and care for on a
daily basis.
Have you ever cut your own hair or had your hair cut
really short?

I've tried short hair before, and it doesn't look good on me. I look so awful... and I've never tried to cut it on my own. well, I can cut my bangs on my own, but never my whole hair.

I've had some previous experience
with cutting hair, so it wasn't that hard
to do.
I miss my thinning shears.
Those things cost well over $100 in a beauty supply shop,
but they make hair cuts look so professional.
Wish I still had a pair.
Don't know what happened to the other ones.
Thanks for your comment.

that's nice. consider that as a talent. it isn't that easy to cut your own hair..
why don't you buy a new one?

I should do that!
Just now I checked online
and found a discount pair for $25,
so I might get those.

I've never cut my own hair except for the time when I was 9 or 10 and I wanted a fringe on the front (like everyone else) and my mother refused. I tried to chop it myself....but it was a disaster and I had to go around with my hair clipped back for quite some time.
I've cut my hair upto my neck when I was much younger....around 11 or so. Though I thought I looked smart at the time...I realized soon enough that it made me look like a boy and I didn't like that.
When I was 18 or 19, I went in for a trim once (I had a little more than shoulder length hair then). The lady who was TRYING to trim my hair wasn't really good at it and it was never even. Trying to correct one side she would end up making the other side uneven. This continued till she had cropped all the way upto my neck. I didn't like it one bit.
Now I've got waist length hair and it's too much maintenance. I want to chop it off but upto my neck would be too drastic and I don't have the confidence to do it on my own.

The secret to a great short hair cut,
that doesn't make you look like a boy
is to cut layers.
The hair can't simply be the same length
from the root to ends.
Layers feminize the look easily!

I ever cut my own hair during high school because my mum didn't bring me to saloon after promising for few months. I took a scissor and cut it (from waist to shoulder). I even thought that it was so pretty and showed it my mum. My mum was shocked to see my 'ugly' hair. Then, my dad and brothers also laughed on that. I cried for the whole day. The next day, I didn't go to school but to saloon to tidy up the hair. I don't think I will ever ever cut my own hair again.
Yes, I ever cut my hair really short too but it does not suit my face - my mum even said that looks like 'crazy girl'. Hmmm...Again, will never cut that short anymore.

I'm sure your hair cut looked fine.
They were just having fun at your expense.

I've never cut the back of my hair myself. My hair is such a pain to cut, because it grows in a million different directions. I'm really picky about who is allowed to cut my hair. When I was in cosmetology school, one of my instructors couldn't ever get it right, and she had been doing hair for about 20 years.
I have had my hair fairly short. When I was in cosmetology school, and right afterward, I had the haircut where it was short in back, with a small stack. It was just past my chin in the front. I really liked it, but my husband didn't (he wasn't my husband yet, though). I started growing it out right before we got married. I have had it cut a few times since then, but I've always kept it at least shoulder length. Right now I'm growing it out so I can donate it to locks of love. I haven't decided how short I'm going to go when I cut it yet.

That's really sweet! I wish I'd done
something like that.
A very worthy cause.
Are they in every city?
Could I find them in the phone book or online?

You are very brave to do that, there is no way I would have short hair, I do not think that it suits me at all.
I always had to have short hair as a child, as soon as I left home, that was it I started growing it. The trouble with it always being kept short though is that it will never grow further than my shoulders which is very annoying as I wanted it really long.

Could be an issue with nutrients in your body.
My hair grew like crazy when I
was taking my prenatal vitamins.

I've cut my hair before and totally messed up. so now all I do is trim my bangs cause I hate my bangs in my eyes and trim my sons hair a little when its getting to long in the back and going over his ears. other than that we go to salons to get our hair cuts. This year I am not getting a hair cut i am going to let my hair get long. I usually keep it short a bove my shoulders.

Hehe I hope my husband doesn't read this. Until last year, I was cutting my own hair for the last 15 years. I had a straight style, long hair with fringe across my forehead and just used to cut it when the fringe was getting overly long, often it wasn't straight but I would brush it to the sides till it grew back, my husband hated it. Last year I decided to get rid of the fringe as I hit a certain age and thought I would make hubby happy about my hair for a change so I went for a side parting and put highlights in and got rid of the fringe. He is always complementing me on my hair since then as do all of my friends, no one has said they miss my old hair style.
I had super short hair in the mid 80s - and a perm. I had those dreadful curly perms with a wet look that was the fashion back then UGH when I see photos now, I cringe in horror and say to my mum "why did you let me leave the house looking like that?" hahahaha!
I can't go back to short hair as I love having it long, it's not very long, just 4 or 5 inches below shoulder length and as I have a round face, there aren't many short styles that would suit me :)

Change is good!
Change invigorates life and gives you
something to look forward to.
My little girl is constantly complimenting
my hair.
The other day we were outside and she said,
"I like your hair short. But mine is long.
I like mine long Not short!."
It sounded sing-song like a poem in one of those
old fashioned rhyme book
they used to have for children.
She said it so matter of fact too.
I felt blessed!

My mom kept my hair super short until I was maybe 4 years old. Even though I don't remember my hair ever being this short, there are pictures of myself that I have seen with this short hair style and I didn't like it one bit! I haven't had it that short since! LOL
When I was about 11 years old I decided to cut my bangs one day. But I made the mistake of pulling down while cutting and I cut my bangs too short! I was so embarrassed I put a baseball cap on. But my mom and sister knew something was up because I never wore this hat. LOL I don't remember how, but one of them got the cap off and when they saw my bangs they bust up with laughter. I figured out what I did wrong and I could cut my own bangs from then on.
Around the same time I cut my bangs for the first time I cut the rest of my hair as well. That didn't turn out well either, though my sister ended up helping me even it out the best she could while still keeping it the length I cut it, which was shoulder length.
Nowadays my husband trims/cuts my hair for me, so that I don't have to do it myself.

Growing up, before entering military service, my hair was super long, meaning, it was shoulder length. I liked it like that for the period of time (the 70s). It took me some time to get it down to military length and then after that all was history. Wearing hats caused me to lose a great deal of my hair, and in its present form, I have had the ability to cut it myself. I certainly do not have enough to have to go to a beauty salon or barber shop. Actually, what is nice, if I leave it alone, I actually do see a good deal of my hair growing back where I feel it shouldn't. Oh well, maybe this is just a fantasy.

When I was in the school, I had short hair. Besides, before my baby was born, I also had short hair. As it would be much more convenient for me to handle it at that time. Sometimes I also try to cut my fringe but it's only a little bit. As I am afraid the result will be bad looking. So I dare not to cut a lot by myself.

I have cut my hair super short before, and I did it myself. I was just experimenting, and was surprised that I did such a good job. I really liked my short haircut, but have not cut it that short again. I think short hair takes more work, so at the present my hair is long, and I think I will keep it that way for a while.

I always consult a hair dresser for my hair, I never cut my own hair, but I had the experience of cutting my sister's hair for experimental purposes. My parents were so angry at me because my poor little sister's hair was so short that my dad scolded me and he even told me to go to the hair stylist to fix it.

I like to keep my hair somewhat short, not crew cut but short. A couple years ago a family friend convinced me that he could cut my hair for me the way I wanted and save me a trip to the salon. I let him do it and ended up with 1/2" hair...I'm not kidding, it was so short that you could see skin. I had to wear a hat for weeks. I learned my lesson.

I used to cut my own hair all the time. In high school I would let my best friend cut it too. It always came out a little shorter than we would originally had planned. I have never cut my own hair really short but I have had it cut short before. I did it when I was 18 and again in 2001 when I was pregnant with my daughter.
I have been letting my hair grow out lately. It is the longest it has been since the 9th grade.

I have tried to cut my own hair but was not very successful with it and had to go to the hairdressers after to have it fixed. My bangs were driving me crazy one day as they were too long and falling into my eyes, so I cut them. I thought it wouldn't be so hard as it is only my bangs but I couldn't get them straight and I ended up with very short and uneven bangs so I had to spend $45 to get them fixed. I will never cut my own hair again.
I do cut, or did cut, my husbands' hair, now ex-husband. I bought one of those kits where you can give a brush cut with it. You know, the ones with razor like blades. He always wore his hair short, about an inch or two long, so his was very easy to do. Also with it that short if I missed something it wasn't noticeable anyways.

The shortest that I have every had my hair cut is probably ear level, I wouldn't have the courage to have it any shorter. I like having my hair long and am in the process of trying to grow it!!

I usually cut my own hair. Especially when I want to look something new and i don't have time to go to the barber shop.
Sometimes, I let my friend cut my hair for me, like now. We just did it in my room with a pair of not so sharp scissors but it still had the job done.
And the good thing about cutting your own hair is that you don't have to pay for it! That's just being economic-wise.
