I have tried quite a few linux flavors, slackware, redhat, debian, mandriva, ubuntu, fedora core, tiny linux. they all are good O.S. I can say that they are the same it has a command line and syntax that is the same with other distro. most of the package installed with the distro can also be installed in other distro. but for desktop I go with Ubuntu they dominate. for server every linux is best, the difference is the one who administer it. cheers linuxusers

I Never got on with Ubuntu, it just ran too slow and felt a bit buggy.
I have also tried Mandriva, PCLinux2007 (including Mini Me), Puppy Linux and Mandriva XFCE version.
I am back using Mandiva with the Xfce desktop with the new 2009 update and have so far found this the best with Puppy Linux running in Second Place.
Apparently Mint Linux is also very good, but haven't tried this one.
