HELP!! I think my router's dying!!!

I'm really having issues with my router. It's a wireless gateway and at times when I'm on my desktop I'll get the flashing amber light indicating that I've lost connection. When it goes red, we're dead. Then I have to unplug it to get it to reset. Sometimes it's hours before it's back up. This has been going on forever but they tell me nothing's wrong with it. Yeh, right. Now we're losing our wireless connection. I'll check the router and all lights are green. So can anyone please tell me--is my router dying!! I'd like to replace it as soon as possible if that's the case since my daughter relies on her laptop for work. Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!
