On my walk through a local nature center this Sunday I came across many mushrooms growing in the wild. This is a shot of one that really looked cool. I thought I'd share it here. Do you take walks in nature to see things like this? What is the strangest mushroom/fungus growth you've seen?

I would kick them all down as they can cause serious lawn damage if left there. This is what I was told byu a local nursery here in Minnesota anyhow.
Thanks for the great photo as well. I loved it.

We did knock them all down except the ones my husband ran over with the lawn mower. They are all gone now. I read up on them a few weeks ago on the web when this was occurring. We've had them before but not of that magnitude. They were taking over! I don't think they'll ruin your lawn though. They haven't hurt ours.

I don't really get to see many "toad stools" around here. That is what we call the mushrooms around here that grow wild. Last time I saw a bunch of wild ones was last year when my son, grandson and I went to the park and across the road there is a golf course and there were many of them around. My grandson went through the fence and kicked a few around.

I have some growing in my yard.
A lot grow here in lawns due to the damp cold air this time of year.
I kick them down in my lawn as well.
They can do serious damage to the grass growth in the next year otherwise.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
This looks as though you can eat it but wouldn't take a chance, good photography, keep it up, you got a good eye for it.

we have tremendously large brown mushrooms that grow around here. they just grown wild under some trees. I am always afraid that that they are poisonous. So I steer clear fo them all the time.
I have seen other types around here also. But I have no idea which ones will not kill me or make me sick!

You are too funny! I don't care for fungus myself. Occasionally I take a walk, but I usually do it at night and stay near my home, so I don't get to see too much good nature.

My dad likes "puffballs" which I guess are huge round mushrooms. I've never seen one but I keep looking because he wants one so badly, says they're absolutely wonderfully delicious. Thanks for sharing your walk!
