I have 3 in the kitchen, one long knife, one small utility knife and a bread knife. I often use the long knife and the utility knife. I use the utility knife or paring, for chopping onions, for chopping garlic and any small piece ingredients. I use the larger knife when I slice meats, fish and chicken and beef too. I use the utility knifes oon vegetables too and on fruits. I really prefer the utility knife because it is easier to handle and easier to clean too.

How about you guys, how many knives do you own and how often do you use it?

I use only one because I share a kitchen and don't want to have to watch or move a lot of stuff.
Besides my landlord wants me to keep my stuff out of his way and out of the kitchen.
So I use a sharp knife that cuts everything and keep using that continuously.
I may use another to eat but not always.

I have 5 or 6 kitchen knives, but I only use 3 or them.
The one I use the most is my chefs knife with the 10 inch blade. I think this big knife is the easiest to use. It works for almost everything. I never ever use a paring knife.
I also have a boning knife that I use on occasion, especially for filleting chicken. The last knife that I use has a serrated blade. Sometimes you need to saw, not cut.
If you buy good knives, they can last forever. My knives are over 30 years old. I hand wash them, keep them sharp, and use them every day.

5 knifes together. A medium one to cut meat, thin knife to cut fruit, Orange colored to peel fruit skin, thick one to chop meat and the last small utility knife. I mostly use the medium one to prepare my dinner. Different knifes for different purposes help to make more fun with coooking as well as to maintain good hygiene.

I have 4 knives - one cleaver, one utility knife, 2 chef's knives. I use the chef's knife (the one with blue handle alot). It's from Tupperware brands. Its very very sharp and I have gotten cut many times . I use the chef's knife for cutting meat into smaller pieces, cutting onions, tomatos. I seldom use the cleaver (also tupperware brands). I only use it if I am chopping up onion and garlic. I used to use the black handle chef's knife alot before I bought the tupperware brand chef's knife. I go the black handle one from redemption coupon. Its still good but I prefer the tupperware brand one. I also keep all the knives in the wooden block after it is all dried. THese are sure handy tools for me in the kitchen and I am glad the investment is worth it.Knives that have helped cook meals.

My grandparents had maybe two knives that they used constantly. They never seemed to have issues with these all purpose knives. I on the other hand have several favorites. A few years ago I bought a Ginsu knife. That thing is awesome and I do use it for many tasks. When chopping I love using a cleaver. It makes it seem easier. I love paring knives for peeling the skin off onions and garlic and even will use it to peel potatoes instead of a peeler. I do have a chef's knife but find it can be awkward to use depending on what you need it for. The best knife is a sharp one.

I have a whole bunch of knives because people keep giving me knife sets for gifts. I have a nice set of steak knives that we use often and my good paring and chopping knives that I like. Some of the older ones I keep for no good reason in a drawer.

We have 3-4 knives in the kitchen. I don't cook at all so I don't know what knives are best to use for chopping, paring, etc. Haha. I just pick out a knife that can do the job. I use a steak knife most often because it's the smallest and sharp enough to do everything. I use it to slice fruits and meat most of the time. :)

I have a lot of knives in the kitchen, I can't even count. Most of them are gifts from friends who also love to cook as I do. But I have some few that I use frequently. For peeling potatos and carrots, I don't use knife for it is more convenient to me to use peeler. I use a knife though for peeling squash, mangoes, and other fruits, but it must be the thinnest and sharpest one which I also use for dicing, and cubing. For cutting I use longer knife. For chopping I use the rectangle shape knife which is bigger and heavier.
