I just cant seem to live within the budget these days. I am always withdrawing more and more from the bank each month to make ends meet. My family has cut down on a lot of things like movies or dining out and spend money on the bare necessities of life, yet one thing or the other raises the price of commodities. Vegetables have become so very dear, only because of floods in certain areas, meat has always been costly here. We pay as much as Rs. 200 for one kg of meat. I dont know how you guys manage to run the house, but its a bad situation and I really dont know how to earn extra on the internet. Ive given up on ptc. Surveys which pay non Indians as much as 25-75 dollars are worth only 4 dollars to us. But life must go on with a smile. The rich are becoming richer and the middle class are getting poorer. What is the scenerio at your end?

My household hasn't been hit significantly even though we have been experiencing inflation this past year. No doubt price for gasoline, food, transport and basic necessities have increased, and that has translated to higher household and personal expenditures. In the face of inflation, we have tightened our belts and have practiced prudence in how we spend our money. Since we have choices, we do choose to eat less at fancy restaurants, drive less and sometimes switch to cheaper means of transportation. Also we buy house brands or cheaper brands of necessities which are almost as good as the leading brands. On the whole, we still live quite normally and all we need to do is to cut down any extravagance in spending. Otherwise, life goes on as per normal for us.

Generally inflation and recession hit everyone who needs to earn and spend money, but some people are harder hit when times are bad. For me, I have survived through these storms since the mid-1980s. I just have to tighten my belt and ride through the storms. I am not hit significantly due to various reasons. Firstly, I am very prudent with money. I have learned from young to save money. I already started the savings habit since I was 13 years old. For every dollar I earn, I try and save 20 or 30 cents, and because I have been saving for more than 20 years now, I have good savings to tie me over any difficult period. I have cultivated this habit of not being extravagant. I don't buy something if it is not necessary. I don't waste my money on material things, or vices like gambling, smoking and drinking. For those who do, when times are difficult like now, it is harder to cut back on these cravings, but for me, I don't have to. I just tighten my belt a little and life can go on almost normally. Of course my wife and I are both university graduates, so we have the ability to earn a decent living working, so that helps in any circumstances. Unfortunately, there are some people who don't have a great ability to earn well, yet they spend much of what they earn indulging in things which they can actually forgo, instead of putting money aside and making that money grow for rainy days. Be prudent in spending, save from young and invest in what you save and make it grow...that's the key to having a healthy finance in later life to tie over difficult times. There's no shortcut unless one is born with a silver spoon. Hope this little sharing helps.

Thank God for a few cheerful replies. Everybody to a greater extent is hit by this inflation, so tightening belts is one way. I guess you must be two or more people working in the same family or maybe one has a very good well paid job. Its only then that inflation grip is slight. Thank you for your honest reply. I sure appreciate it.

Several years ago, my present scholarship can help me lead a good life, enough to afford the food, clothes and usually I can save some money to buy a makeup for myself. But now, It only covers the food fee, I have to take some part-time jobs to make two ends meet. Inflation can not be avoid, but these years, the problem seems to be more seious than before. Now the world economic situation is bad, many people can not make sure how tomorrow life will be. I hope after several years suffering, all thing goes back to the right.

This my friend is wishful thinking that things will improve. I can see only darkness in this tunnel and no light. Jobs are unavailable and recession is on. Wonder when things will improve, if ever. Not with these politicians filling their own pockets and not feeling the pinch. One must know where the shoe pinches, but the rich dont know the pinch, so dear, we are left to suffer. i suppose we have to grin and bear it, no other way.

I'm only sixteen, and i'm feeling it even though i dont have bills or taxes to pay. Gas is hitting hard enough, but things like movies, games, public events, all that is going up and my friends and i just can't afford it. What we've realized too is that with the price of entertainment in particular going up, that leaves more teens on the streets trying to find entertainment in stupid and reckless activities. Inflation equals crime increases.

latest inflation makes my present salary to loose at least 25% of the buying capacity.. this means reducing some luxuries like frequent dining at restaurants, fewer visits to starbucks.. and not buying new gadgets.. now it is also very hard to have savings as there is no more excess from the salary i receive.. but i believe in the saying that if the blankets gets smaller, we have to try to fit inside.. i just hope at the end of the rain, there will be rainbow of hope.. hehehhe..

OMG! the inflation is really getting ridiculous I recently went shopping and couldn't believe how expinsive things were I live on a budget also, and I'm finding it really difficult not to go over my budget at the store, the prices change so quick one day its one price and the next its another, even at the so called discount stores they clime there having a sale and you go there to check it out and you find that the sale is just meant to lure you there to buy things and the price of the items are not listed the same as the sales catalog I hope that things get better soon because everyone deserves a chance to live comfortably and right now with the present economy its a strain even to buy the basics.

Hello,Kety! The present rate of inflation has hard hitted everybody's budget.Everymonth we are running with overdraft. The worst sufferers are the poor who don't get a square meal a day with their scanty income. And the worst effected people in the society are the middle class or the lower middle class people.Till the end of last year I was saving as much as 25% of my income for emergency use but now it is not possible to save.Instead I am withdrawing every month a large amount from the savings to meet expenses. The overall expenditure has increased by nearly 30%,really a disgusting situation throu which we are passing these days. And I don't think the situation will imrove in the nearest future.thanx.

The scenerio scares me no end. If this is the state of affairs today, what will be the state tomorrow with the financial crisis the world is facing. Inflation is on the rise and jobs are getting scarce or underpaid. Life is hard hit and we just have to hope for a better future for our old age and our children.

You are not alone! I think everyone is feeling the pinch these days. I've just tried to cut back on everything a little and make it sort of a game to see how much I can save. I've cut out the dry cleaners and try to wash by hand the delicate items. I use a clothesline instead of the dryer for smaller items, and I've become creative with leftovers. I've cut down on red meat and try to make more meals using chicken and locally grown products. I car-pool to work with a friend, and I've sold a lot of things on e-bay. We also splurged and bought a few board games for evenings when we are really bored, or we will rent a movie between a couple of families for the weekend. It's tough, but if you start with little adjustments, it becomes more of an incentive to see what you can save. I'm sure things will get better for all of us, but in the meantime, we will be living a bit more frugally than usual. Have faith, we will get through!

Very innovative di, and yes, it is in our hands to how much we can tighten our belts and yet live sensibly. I sincerely hope things work out, for now I cant even thing of vegetables costing as much as 80 to 100 a kilo, forget meat and the trimmings. Its only 15th, and my salary has already disappared and will have to draw from my hard earned savings. Pray for us too. Thanks for your very nice ideas. To be frank, I h avent seen a movie in ages and eating out is definitely out of question.

Basically you just pay more for everything. I just try to make the ends meet every month and borrow whenever I have to and pay back as best I can. Its not a good situation and prices are increasing all the time so I pray and hope for the best. Trying to budget or calculate ahead seems useless anyhow.

Its the same with me. I have learned to give money more value and not just spend it on things that i really dont need like watching movies, i have stopped buying clothes and have listed all the expenses that I do each day so that I can evaluate those items that i should lessen and stop sepnding.

I guess its a hopeless situation. The rich dont feel the pinch and the worst hit are the poor and middle class. I really dont know where to curtail any more. My salary does not meet my needs and we have to cut down on all but the basic necessities of life. Dont think matters will improve in the near future, what with the politicians minting money and not bothering about the likes of us.

I STRONGLY AGREE with you Ketybhagat. Me and my family also are cutting out with our expenses...My salary can not anymore provide a good living. I am still single and a bread winner of the family and I do the budget..It sucks!!!! When I go to groceries I just felt sad because to compare before with my budget for groceries it can buy many food supplies already..But today I am thinking really of many ways to trim it down and to prioritize what must to buy.. That is also one thing that if only I could earn money online, in a way I can have extra income... Thanks!!!

I too am a single earner in my family, so I can understand the strain you must be undergoing. But how much can we cut down. We need the basic necessities of life and a certain standard of living. I too am despeerately looking out for other means of livelyhood, but what with the numerous scams, Im even afraid to invest what little I have. Thanks.

i agree with you. previously i was able to save a portion of our income but for the past3-6 months, we are unable to do so. we would almost end up with no savings and at times withdrawing from past savings. now we are extremely watchful over our expenditures in view of the recent economy crisis. the recent increase in groceries and transport have been a big factors for the cause. it is not easy to run the house nowdays. we spend about about 20-30% more than previously to maintain the same living standard

Everybody is hurt and unhappy, and the crisis has only just begun. We have been suffering from years together with little hope, and now with the recent crisis, its going to become worse and worse. We the middle class people are the worst hit, because we have to maintain a certain standard of living. The rich dont care and the poor are not bothered with standard of living. Pray things work out for the betterment of humanity at large. Thanks.
