Have you been reading about myths and your period here?

There are a few discussions here about a woman's menstrual cycle. It seems that some myths are hard to kill. I am suggesting that you check out about.com and do a search for menstrual period myths.
Did you learn anything new?
Please research things. Chatting amongst ourselves when we have research to help clear things up is unwise.

I read that discussion as well.
In all fairness to the person who posted that discussion, rocketj1, I saw where she said that her grandmother's telling her the myth of washing your hair during your period would cause cancer was not enough to stop her from washing it. She is certainly not insisting that this myth is true!
Her post was merely a question about whether or not other myLotters wash their hair during their periods. Her responses say that she's been brought up believing this and is questioning it's validity. I'm sure she feels there's some truth to it because it's been engrained into her psyche since birth, but she said that it's not stopping her from washing her hair at that time.

You know, it's funny because she posted a link to a site about myths about this in responding to her very first response! Maybe if someone were to post an exerpt from that site you mentioned instead of just the link, she'd understand it better, you know?
I understand where you're coming from, believe me, I do and I agree with you. At the same time, I can understand why things like this get so embedded into a persons subconscious that they can't quite see the facts put right under their noses.
It seems that every culture has their own myths and legends and no amount of talking will ever change their perception of things. I simply don't try. I give my opinion and that's where it ends here in myLot. Everyone has to know that anything said here must be taken with a grain of salt, wouldn't you agree?

Very true. I guess I get frustrated about health myths especially. It's hard enough to sort through all of the research about our health nowadays. The research seems to contradict itself so many times.
I guess I'm worried about women always blaming themselves for every ailment they have. I would hate for someone to beat themselves up about their cancer someday. There is not benefit or truth to that.
Thanks for being a voice of reason for me today. Having said that, I like the irony of your user name here

Thank you very much. I hope I have not insulted anyone with this discussion. I was just getting very frustrated with another discussion in which the "author" was ignoring everything else that everyone was saying. She insisted that there had to be truth to the myth she was told, and that there was no research done to disprove her odd belief about her period. I believe that as women we must be better informed about our health.
Thanks again
