Today I went for my first eye examination since I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. I was very pleased with the response I received from my eye doctor because he commended me on the healthy condition of my eyes. He said that in fact he would not have known I was diabetic if I had not told him so. I was surprised when he said that often this is not the case with diabetics. They frequently lose their eyesight due to eating an improper diet. I really felt good when he told me that myvision had not changed much at all since my last visit and that I still see very well out of my glasses I wear now. I will be getting my new glasses in about a week from now but I just wanted to pass along to anyone who is a diabetic the importance of eating right to maintain your eye health.

I will go one step further World and say I have seen first hand how a diabetics eyes can go.. As most know, I love to read and it must be in the family, because my sister did too..Unfortunately she was a diabetic and as her illness progressed because she didn't care for herself, her last years were spent not being able to read..If she wanted a story, she would have to get it on cassette, and many books back then were hard to get on tape.. but even if you are not a reader, trust me, if you are a diabetic, you need to do everything you can to stay healthy, you don't want to go down the path my sister took..

I am sure you know, but you have to watch your feet as well. Diabetics who don't eat right often lose feeling in their feet and then get infections cause they don't know they are hurt. Glad to hear you are doing well. You are doing better than my grandmother who refuses to eat right. I am trying to lose weight so I don't end up with type 2 diabetes which is what my grandmother has.

That is great to hear. I am thinking that I may be a diebetic also but I have not been to a doctor to have it checked out. We do not have any insurance right now. I will go soon though... Good luck to you in recovery.
