The Winners... and the losers...

I know a few people who literally win at everything. Lotteries, soccer games, and those small writing contests at school. It's almost like they can't lose. And yet.. you also have the losers who haven't won anything in their lives. ((That used to be me until I won a T-shirt :) )). What's your opinion on what's a loser and what's a winner? Does the person have a good luck charm, is it just chance, or is it fate?
