october 17 2008 sun for 36 hours ???

Hi friends, i am not sure how many of them know about this. Recently i got a mail from my friend regarding october 17 2008 and i was shocked. It was written that coming october 17, sun will be continuosly there for 36 hours in asia and at that time america will be dark fully. Is that true? Even i searched for it in google and got lot of result. But why dint nasa given no information about that? And also no information from news. Or else its just a fake? If so lets wait and see till the date.

For this to happen the earth will have to slow its speed of rotation for 1 day, and speed up again there after.For a body the size of the earth this is not possible as the angular rotational forces are to great and could lead to the earth destroying itself if this had to happen.

I am have not heard of this. It does not sound scientifically possible, wouldn't that mean the the earth would stop rotating 36 hours, what would cause that. Wouldn't that be a scarry thing? Thank you for bringing this to light I will look in to it.

I don't think will be happening. Long back in the end of year 1999 there were rumors saying that world will end because of big natural disaster. But nothing happened. This is also rumor. Simply to scare people some persons who are not any other work to do is spreading like this news. If it is true NASA could have warned America and Asia.

This is a hoax. For the sun to be up for 36 hours, the Earth's rotation would have to slow down considerably or stop all together. The reason why NASA or the news have not jumped on this is for that reason- it's a hoax. Earth is way too big to stop or slow down that quickly- it's impossible. I would just go on with your life and the sun will rise and set as it's been doing since whenever.

hai glad to see here. even i received a message like this but no idea of what will happen. Lets wait till the date. More over Nasa has not given any information on this and even i asked my father about this, even he doesnt know anything about this. Hope something good must only happen.

Sounds like a huge hoax to me. I am sure it would have been on the news if this was true (if it is even possible...which I doubt!) I don't think we have to worry about continual darkness until the end of the world...and everyone knows that is happening in 2012.

Well, maybe this is just another prediction..I don't believe that it will happen 'cause there are so many like this prediction before.. Yes, you're right let's just wait and see if this will happen.. I'll wait on that day!

I also received this kind of message. At the end of the message stated that it was from BBC and another internatinal news body. I dont know if I should believe this, we just have to wait till the said the comes.

I think its a very creative hoax from another Armageddon type. But I guess we will know for sure in a few days. I hadn't heard anything about this, and frankly don't care. I'll still have to work and do the things I'd normally do, dark or not. :p

I also saw this in cnn news and many people are reacting and talking about it. Anyway I don’t think this is possible, maybe it is just another hoax or something. Funny how news like that spread like wildfire. Wonder who starts these things. Anyway, one reader in one site that discusses this stuff said that sun for 36 hours will only be possible if the earth stopped revolving which can also mean the end of the world so this is ridiculous.
