why is it that if someone tells you that there are billion stars in the universe you will believe them, but if they tell you a wall has wet paint you will have to touch it to be sure?

i think people believe that there are billion star in the universe because they just can't keep counting the star. however they will try touch a wet painted wall because they can easily touch the wall. another reason is because the number of star got nothing to do with our life but the wet painted wall may got any relation with us either because it is our wall or we just don't want to get the paint got on us. it is much better to make sure of the information that been exposed to us. if we just keep believing on others word we will be cheated easily.

Well, when someone tells you there are a billion stars (though actually there are more), you don't want to spend the time counting them, it would be impossible, so you just take their word for it... When you are told the paint is wet it is a lot easier to prove them wrong or right through experience, it's not too far out of reach, like the stars, to touch the wall with the wet paint. Perhaps we touch the wall just to know if they were right or wrong, and by human nature we hope the paint is dry so we can snicker at them for being wrong. If you touch the paint then you can just wash your hands and pretend you never did it haha. Happy mylotting and have a great day or night.

I think not all will do that but to some, I think that curiosity explains why. As for the stars, we often wonder but we can count them one by one coz its a waste of time. I believe that its not non-believing that urge them to do that.

I don't touch paint if someone says it's wet. Perhaps it's because I don't care enough not to believe them, or I care enough to not want to mess up their paint job.
