do i need to buy a toothpaste for my cat

well can i just use a normal toothpaste (like what i am using) for my cat?

Not really a good idea, your cat might swollow some and on a body so much smaller than yours it could be harmful. Probably best, if you really want to brush its teeth, is just to use a clean, wet brush.

Hi, Both cats and dogs do need to have their teeth brushed. They get decay and infections just like we do and believe me, it's an expensive vet visit. I've had one that had to have a fang pulled and it was considered surgery. He had to spend the night. He'd been in so much pain that he was enjoying the anesthesia. Toothaches are also painful for the animal but they can't tell you that. They depend on us to take care of them. My vet told me not to use toothpaste made for humans because it has shampoo in it - sounds like we shouldn't use it either, LOL. They do make meat flavored toothpaste for dogs as someone mentioned, I'm not sure about cats. The best thing to do if you can't or don't want to get special toothpaste is to simply get a piece of wet gauze and wrap it around your finger and gently scrub your pet's teeth. Most dentists will tell you that it's actually the brushing more than the toothpaste that gets your teeth clean. My dog loves it and my cats will tolerate it. My vet also said that with dogs, the bottom teeth take care of themselves for some reason I can't remember and all you have to do is clean the upper teeth. I'm not sure whether it's the same for cats. You could probably call any vet's office and ask. Good luck!
