I have a bad cavaity and I know have a severe toothache. However, I can't afford to go to the dentist right now so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how to get rid of it.Any home remedies for a toothache? I would greatly appreciate them.

There is no remedy for a severe toothache other than going to the dentist. Go to the yellow pages and call dentist after dentist and tell them your problem.
Ask them what options are available to you. Hopefully one of them will be able to direct you in the right direction.
If all else fails, then go to the emergency room at your local hospital and apply for charity care. They must treat your condition. At least that's how they do it here in New Jersey.
I really hate to bring up the issue of healthcare in America, but your case illustrates what's wrong with our healthcare system and the lack of affordable healthcare.
We have to get to the point where someone like you can nip this problem in the bud before it becomes a bigger problem.
It's unacceptable that you are in pain because you aren't able to afford treatment at this time. No American should be in that situation.
You should have the same healthcare our Congressmen and Senators have. Afterall, there healthcare is payed by the American taxpayer.
Please follow my advice and let me know how things work out.

I have tried everey dentist around and they all want payment up front. I have some insurance from work but it is not good and it still costs me a lot. The cheapest price that I have been quoted is almost $500. That is a lot of money!!
I agree with you on the healthcare issue. It is a problem and we need to address it now as it is not fun to be in pain and not be able to take care of the problem.

How right you are in that aspect! We need some health care now that is affordable for all people. I did finally get rid of the pain with clove oil and holding ice on my hand. I now have 4 broken ones in the back and I know that they need to be pulled but I guess I will have to wait as my oldest daughter has chronic neurological Lyme Disease now and we are paying for her treatment and that is expensive now.

I agree with oil of clove. But be careful its very strong. My mother says you can put ben-gay on it... I know sounds gross but she says it works. My husband -who refuses- to go to denist tried it. after about a week no more toothach at all...that was 2 years ago. And last is put preasure on the webbing at the base of your index finger with the thumb of the other hand (on top and the index from other hand on bottom. apply preassure towards the joint where the finger meets hand. do this for about 1 min thn other hand.. it really helps. I have a broken tooth in the back. At night I will hit it with lower teeth and wow, talk about pain I have had this for about 1 1/2 years. I went to the denist and was told that after I paid $250.00 the would remove it.. I have dental insurance by the way. I and my husband work full time jobs. We are considered middle class. And I cant afford it. And charity doesnt work...

Thanks for the advice. I actually am a lot better now. I have found that peroxide does a lot of cleaning of the infection out of a tooth and does help with some of the pain.

It is not infected. I would know if it was and you can rinse your mouth with peroxide and get rid of infection. I know this from a friend who was a dental assistant.

Thanks. I have heard by a friend to put an aspirin on the tooth and it will help. I tried it and it worked.

The only one I heard is oil of clove. I cannot think of any others, but I will see what the remedies recommended on the web are. So I happened to find a link that would give you some more suggestions. http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/remedy/Toothache.html
You will have to go to the dentist sooner or later or horrors! root canal.

I have already had a root canal done on the tooth and had it filled. Nothing like that lasts long and so it is just a money pit to go have it fixed again.

Hello carolscash.
Here are some tips to avoid suffering from tooth ache
1. Brush your teeth two to three times a day
2. Avoid eating hot foods followed by cold drinks
3. Use dental floss regularly.
4. Have a regular dental check-up.
But if you already suffered for toothache, you must visit your dentist for tooth extraction or pasta, He will also prescribe some meds that you will need to take to prevent inflammation and pain.

I have this problem as I have always had low calcium and my teeth are very weak. Plus, my iron stays low so I eat a lot of ice. I try not to chew it much but I do and it eventually has chipped the enamel off of my teeth. However, I am not able to take iron pills.

Honestly if you have a bad cavity it is in your best interest to go to the dentist. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but if it is not fixed then it will eventually turn into something worse such as an extraction! You don't want to lose your tooth because of that. It will also be much more costly down the road. I really don't think there is a way to get rid of a toothache anyway. I guess you could try ibuprofen, but that may not help either. If you can manage to scrap together enough money to get the cavity filled you will be much better off.

I don't want them to fill it. I want them to remove it. I have had it filled several times and the filling never seems to last. I am tired of wasting money by having it filled only to have it hurt again later. I have three teeth that are the same way but only the one hurts.
I tried Ibuprofen and it didn't help at all. I think that this is the worst pain to have especially at night time.
